Let them eat cake!
so I am making my husbands bday cake to try to save some money.
he's not a huge cake person (will have a pie for him) so I am looking more to feed and please the masses...
which do you think would be best?

No one coming to my house has allergies to anything in the suggested cakes, ftr.

if your looking to save some $ chocolate cake w. the coconut would prob be less expensive , but the red velvet is always a crowd pleaser @ my home , cept its more to make

I put other only because in my entire family I dont know anyone who would like the coconut/red velvet thing
I would say chocolate cake with choc frosting or choc. chip cake with choc. frosting...more plain than the others

Red Velvet cake has wayyyyyyy too much food colouring for my liking, but I LOVE CARROT CAKE and Ina Garten does a great recipe for a carrot cake with pineapple in it. yummy.

From MY experience having a cake business a few years ago, from your choices:
Red velvet is your best bet.
Chocolate with coconut: lots of people do not coconut flavor/icing/flakes
Carrot cake: lots of people are not fan of it. Either hate it or love it so not an "everybody" cake.
Best is a regular yellow cake with regular vanilla flavored icing.

I am leaning towards the chocolate b/c it's easiest for me.
