Has anybody ever had Mono?

I found out about a week and a half ago that I have Mono. I still have swollen glands and I feel really really tired. How long does this take to go away? I was out of work last week and I will also be out this week...I feel horrible. Chat Icon

Re: Has anybody ever had Mono?

I had mono when I was 16. Initially I got over it in about 3 weeks. I did relapse though, so definitely listen to your body if it needs to rest.Chat Icon

A bunch of us got it all at once (we shared a cup of coffee at a football game among about 12 people...I think this was the beginning of my germophobia!). Some got it for 2 weeks, and on girl got it for 2 months. She was the kind of person who always got sick though.Chat Icon

Re: Has anybody ever had Mono?

I had mono when I was in 7th grade. While I don't remember a lot of the specifics, I do know it took a few weeks to recover from it. It also took a while for me to finally be diagnosed with it because 2 of my docs were going back and forth saying it was other things until my Dad finally got annoyed and took me out east to my old pediatrician who diagnosed me with mono. Feel better soon!

Re: Has anybody ever had Mono?

I had mono when I was about 20. I was hospitalized for it being that they could not determine the cause for a while. All I can say is REST! And I know that is hard with a kid! But you HAVE to rest as much as you can. IF you don't, it won't go away. And you have to be careful in the future not to overwork yourself or it will come back very easily. Feel better soon! Re: Has anybody ever had Mono?

I got it in my late 20's.

It took about 3 months for me to feel back to normal.

The first two weeks were he*ll. My throat was in so much pain I could barely rest. The next two I slept through. After that recovery was slow but steady.

Chat Icon Feel better and take care of yourself. Don't overdo it and you will slowly feel back to normal.

I got it my senior year of college. I was out of it (literally) for a few weeks. It was awful.

Me!

It took me at least 3 weeks to get over it... and I also about 6-12 months later had "mono-like symptoms" (since you're only supposed to have mono one apparently).

I ended up having an enlarged spleen and they doctor's told me I couldn't leave my house or do anything too physical since my spleen was at risk for rupturing.

i had it for my sweet 16 - lucky Jess... Chat Icon Chat Icon

I felt rotten for about 3 weeks....BUT - when I got it again when i was 20 - the doctors noted that i have larger amount of Epstein Barr in my system than most (we all have it - it's the amount that matters) - so I get occasional 'flare ups'.

All said and done - i've probably had about 4-5 flare ups in my 35 years....but i can ALWAYS feel them coming. If i'm going through an exceptional amount of stress, i'll start falling alseep at weird times, etc...

Unfortunately, the only REAL thing you can do is rest....Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I also had Mono when I was 20...I was in bed for my 20th birthday Chat Icon The doctor explained that it lays dormant and being very run down could trigger it. The past couple of months have been stressful at work. I was getting sick a lot and eventually after bloodwork a couple of weeks ago, he said that the mono/epstein barr came back Chat Icon I just dont remember it being this bad the first time that I had it Chat Icon

unfortunately, as you get older - it will hit you harder. My last issue was maybe 2 years ago and it was MUCH worse than any of the prior times I have had it...age doesn't improve MOST things in life...especially this one.

Re: Has anybody ever had Mono?

I had it when I was 16.

I felt really yucky for about 2 weeks, however was able to get homeschooling through the district for the remaining 2 months of the school year. I felt it was essential to my "healing" since I was able to "take it easy" all the time..

Re: Has anybody ever had Mono?

I had it when I was 15. I was sick for about 4 months, but I also had a very bad case of mono. The fever & really intense throat pain lasted about a month & I slowly got better from there. Chat Icon Chat Icon
