Trouble Sleeping
I have been having trouble sleeping on and off for years and it's on again. I haven't slept through the night in months, I am getting another cold and I am always tired. About two years ago I did a sleep test at a clinic and blood work and everything came up fine. (Odd since the person adminstering the test said I woke up every time I went into REM, about every 20-40 minutes.) I don't want to take sleep aids, I am very much against relying on meds. Any other natural ideas? I know all about keeping a routine, no alcohol, no heavy meals before bed, all the regular stuff. I need something else.

Re: Trouble Sleeping
maybe you could try changing yout mattress and/or pillow? that could make a difference!
also - i reccomend going to see a chiropractor! you could have something going in with your neck or back that they could fix and help you relax more and get better sleep!

Re: Trouble Sleeping
I struggle with the same problem, on and off. I have for as long as I can remember - since childhood.
I have not been able to find anything foolproof. Routine and all that stuff helps the most... but nothing has "fixed" it. I don't tolerate most meds well, so they are out for me, too.
If you find anything that works, let me know!
I know I sleep much better when I eat right, exercise regularly, and maintain a low stress level... unfortunately right now my job and lifestyle aren't affording me an opportunity to keep my stress level down...

Re: Trouble Sleeping
what about taking melatonin- it's what nautrally makes you fall asleep
I have been taking it for almost a year now- it's the only thing that helps me- you take it about 1 hour before you want to go to bed- and you just get sleepy- no after effects in the morning

Re: Trouble Sleeping
Thanks for all your suggestions. I will look into them. I had another horrible night last night. I even tried relaxation and breathing exercises before I went to bed and it was still an awful night. I am eating really well now and exercising regularly because I am looking to shed a few pounds so hopefully that will help.

Re: Trouble Sleeping
I've been taking melatonin and it helps. It's a natural supplement, not a medication. Good luck!
