Is anyone a notary?

Just wondering if you can give me some more information. Do I need to take a class or do they have a handbook I can get and than take the test? Was the test hard...multiple choice or just fill-in?

My boss asked if I would become a Notary and have no problem just wonder what's involved.

ETA: Is there a test prep book I can buy? If I see a few old exams to practice with I think I will be fine. How many questions is the test?

It's really easy. They do offere classes but you don't need them - they're a rip off. Just go to the website and print the book out. Go through it once or twice and you should be fine. The test was easy and you only need to pass. It's all multiple choice.

I took the class b/c my employer paid for it. I thought it was informative, and it def helped me b/c I had no idea what would be on the test. I'm not really sure how much it costs.

It's been about 4 years, and i'm not sure where all of my papers are, but I can take a look for you this weekend to see if I still have them. I believe you live pretty close to me (from your posts on the home board), so if I find them, they're all yours.

ETA: There are 40 questions on the test, and it costs $15 to take it.

DH is a notary. Yes, you have to take a test, I believe it is all multiple choice. He bought one of the online prep courses.

I am a notary and I did not take a prep class. I read the booklet that they give you. The test is multiple choice and has a lot of definitions on it so study those. Being in the legal field was defintely an advantage.

Re: Is anyone a notary?

I am an attorney so I didn't have to take the test to get my notary. However in my office, they give the secretaries/paralegals the booklet and they read it and take it. Most pass with no problem.

I can't find my book. Sorry. See if you can take one of the online prep courses.

Good Luck.

I am a notary and did not take the class before the test. I studied the book provided by the NYS dept. of licensing. I also went to the library and got past test papers and I found that very helpful. It gave me a good idea of what to expect.

Re: Is anyone a notary?

Im a notary and all I did was study the book they give you. I think a class would be a waste of money all the questions come right out of the info they give you.
