Adding SKs to insurance policy
DH and I are trying to add SD to our insurance policy (through my workplace) - but apparently, even though DH is responsible for her insurance, since BM is the 'primary care giver' they wont let me add her to my policy.
BM's DH is the insurance carrier at their household and since its not one of his 'biological kids' they wont accept her either..
Our only other option is to take insurance out at DH's job (would cost us over $600/month! - Whereas our insurance through my job is FREE!) and we just CANNOT do that.
It would be literally paying $600/month for a 6 year old to have insurance...
Thats just plain ridiculous... Esp since I am an RN.. I said to the woman at the insurance company, how sad is that, as an RN, someone who cares for others, I may have to put my step daughter on 'state' insurance.. her answer 'oh well'...
Any tips or ideas of what we can do...?!

Re: Adding SKs to insurance policy
That's so weird. BM's DH has a family plan for himself and his DD, then when they got married they added BM and her DD. I don't know who their carrier is but I know it's possible bc they did it.
We would've added DD to ours but we're both still on a single plan bc it works out cheaper that way.
Sorry that they're giving you a hard time; hope it works out!!

Re: Adding SKs to insurance policy
that doesn't seem right to me. DH had a stepson when he was married the first time and carried him on his insurance, I also know of someone who just told me that once she and her fiance get married - she and her son can go on his insurance. maybe call again and speak with someone else, I hate to say this but sometimes you don't always get the correct information from one person.

I was always under the impression, that if the parent claims the child as a dependant, then they can be put under their insurance...Do you claim her on your taxes ??
That definately doesnt seem right

Re: Adding SKs to insurance policy
Thanks for all of your help - I weeded through those links and it helped me find a bunch of other government websites that say children are considered 'biological, step or adopted' may not be excluded from insurance
Hopefully this works!
