Barking due to loneliness/ separation anxiety

Does anyone know if you can break a dog of the habit of barking when it's left alone. I believe this is separation anxiety. I'm trying to adopt a dog, but I was warned that the dog barks when he's alone and I am wondering if that's a habit that can be broken easily.

Please help! I really want to try and adopt this dog. He's too cute be sitting in a shelter or foster home.

Thanks! His face just got me !! I fell in love with the picture. I haven't even met Pedro yet. But he's just precious in this photo.
