New to LI looking for special needs services

Okay so I just moved out to the island and I feel like I am from another planet. Everything is so new to me. I have a child with developmental disabilities. He was attending a school full time from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. five days a week where he would receive PT, OT and Speech therapy. When I say attending school I mean attending school. Since the age of 3 my son had a school environment that children begin to explore at 5 in Kindergarten. The school was great with him. He had a full day with the special educator in a class of 10 to 15 students to one teacher, two assistants, and he would get pulled out twice a week for half hour sessions for each therapy needed. It was great and I have to say with him being there only one year he has shown a great deal of improvement. Now 4 years old our family had to move to Long Island. At first I felt very confident as I thought Long Island schools were so much better. And although I have to say I still really have no idea how much better they are because I just got here, I think that so far from what I have experienced with enrollment here, services are not as good as I thought. My son is currently missing school for approximately 2 and a half months awaiting placement in a specialized program that is to last only 2 hours a day. How I cried when it was time to disenroll him from his former school. I fear that my son will fall so far behind by the time school begins for him here and to finally be enrolled in a school for only 2 hours a day is a great cut back from what he used to receive. My question to you all is: Is this how it is here in Long Island or is someone holding out on some vital information? If there is anyone out there who has answers for me please share. Thanks....

Where are you in the process? You registered him with the school district already? Also not all school districts are created equal on LI.
