Pros and Cons?

Have been considering changing careers to teaching for years now. Even got my pre-certification (in NJ - alternate route). At the time, couldn't find anything besides Catholic school and I couldn't afford a pay cut.

If you are a teacher, can you tell me some of the pros and cons of your job?

-Benefits
-Pension
-Vacation Time
-Like working with HS students
-After tenure, you have more job security (with the exception of being excessed)

Cons
-Can not choose vacation time
-No matter how much I get done at work, there always seems to be more to do (either at home, after school, or on the weekends) Other professionals do not have this (ie My DH who is an engineer leaves work at 4:30 and does not have to think about work again until the next day).
-Right now I think is a rough time for teachers (just like any profession) and I know here in NY there is more talk about reducing state aid, which means additional jobs may be lost (although I am not sure how this is going to happen in many districts since last year there were so many layoffs.)
