i grew up with electric and my house now has gas.
i LOVE gas. it cooks food more evenly and you have more control over the temperature. the only negative part i feel is that it takes longer to preheat the oven.

I have a gas stove and electric oven - the best of both worlds (for the reasons listed above)

Re: Is your stove gas or electric and what are the pros and cons of each??
i grew up with gas and now have electric. i don't find a difference at all...maybe because my appliances are only 2 years old. my electric heats up quickly and i have not had a problem with food not being cooked evenly at all.
the only negative i know of with electric is if there's a power outage, you can't cook.
but i feel much safer with electric than gas. my grandparent's gas stove exploded and caught their kitchen on fire. everyone got out alive but the kitchen was destroyed. my mom was thrown across the room from the blast. when they moved into their new house (the one i now own), they INSISTED on electric because they were scared to death of gas.

I have electric in my house. I don't mind it. It cooks fine. It is about 8 years old.

I have electric here but I prefer gas. If I had my choice I would go with induction next time.

Me too. I have a gas cooktop and an electric wall oven w/ convection option.
Best of both worlds. My sister in law who is an amazing cook taught me that gas is for cooking, electric is for baking/roasting.

I never knew you could get both. I guess it makes sense though, I have stovetop cooking with electric. On gas, my rice would take 20 minutes tops...now with electric it takes forever.
My chicken cutlets always burn now as well.

Same thing for me. I prefer gas over the electric for sure having experienced both.

Re: Is your stove gas or electric and what are the pros and cons of each??
I have an electric convection oven with smooth top. I've learned to like it, especially the oven part, but the top is hard to use because you can't just turn off a flame (the burner stays hot even after its off). It cleans up easy on top and its self clean. I do have gas heat in my house, so I dont know why the old owner had an electric stove and not gas?

Gas is A LOT better. I grew up with gas at my moms and it cooks great. Now in the apartment I have electric and it either burns or undercooks things, its TERRIBLE!!!!!!!

Re: Is your stove gas or electric and what are the pros and cons of each??
I had gas growing up and now we have electric everything. I used to burn everything when we first moved in. When you turn down the temp on the stove, it takes a while to go down, so you have to be careful with that. I'm more used to it now.

I grew up with electric so I was super confused when our apartment now uses gas. However, I love it! You have all the control in the world over the heat. With electric, the burner would still be hot when you lowered it. With gas, once you lower the flame, you lower the heat.

I grew up with electric, then our apt was gas and now our house has electric.
I prefer electric b/c I don't like cooking over open flames. Electric does take longer to heat up, tho.

Re: Is your stove gas or electric and what are the pros and cons of each??
Gas is cheaper, about 50% cheaper at providing BTUs than electric. Could you imagine heating with electric?
Gas works during blackouts and storms.
A small generator would be all you need to enjoy your home during an extended power outage, if you cook and heat your space and heat your water with gas. Once you have refrigeration, and power your boiler or furnace, all you have to endure is lack of television.
If you have gas, you probably don't have an oil burner, and that's a plus. Gas heating equipment has no odor, doesn't need a class A chimney, and is much quieter. Since it's a clean burning fuel and the emissions are mostly water vapor, you don't need yearly orifice and soot cleanouts.
A home with a gas water heater, clothes dryer and range could get by easily with the original 100 amp service even after the addition of rooms, a pool, a hot tub, and central A/C. Add a 30amp dryer, a 40-50 amp range and you'll also have to spring for a 200 amp service.
Gas prices are regulated by the PSC. Your heating costs won't double tomorrow if we invade IRAN.

I have electric and I hate it.
Why??
I just don't like way it cooks. The first 3-4 batches of chicken cutlets were awful, I constantly have to change the setting while I am cooking. It is just so annoying and takes a long time.

Electric does cost the most and takes a long time to heat up. Gas is cheaper and heats up faster then Electric. Induction is the cheapest and heats up the fastest.

Re: Is your stove gas or electric and what are the pros and cons of each??
I had gas growing up and now have electric. Prefer gas all the way. Electric takes too long to warm up and too long to cool off. There have been a couple of times that I have slightly burned my hand while cleaning the stove top b/c it was still semi-hot. I worry once we have kids that they could get burned. With gas, once you turn it off, it is off. Sometimes I cook but need to leave the house asap and can't clean the stove right away b/c it is still hot. Very annoying.
