ulcertive colitis anyone??d
does anyone know of anyone who suffers from colitis? My DH was diagnosed with that and diverticulitis (?) and it's really changed our whole lives and made it worse. Just wondering how anyone deals with this? what medications are you (or whoever you know)? and does it work??

Re: ulcertive colitis anyone??d
My BIL has ulcerated colitis. It was really bad for a while but he's had it under control through diet and medications. (I have no idea what meds though.)

Re: ulcertive colitis anyone??d
I have Crohns which is very similar.
I'm on Humira. It has really helped although I still have symptoms.
I always have to find out where the bathroom is I could never have dinner then the movie..
I know what it feels like.
I always carry an extra pair of panties.
I've been on almost everything. I've had it for 30 years.
Please fm if you would like to "chat".

Re: ulcertive colitis anyone??d
wow you sound just like my DH. he has a "bag" with toilet paper, lysol for bowls, underwear, etc. just in case. it's really demeaning to him. i think it's smart. He couldn't even go to a movie alone, nevermind dinner and a movie. it has affected our lives and our marriage for the worst. I'm trying to understand and I do sympathize, but in my own selfish ways, I hate that we can't do anything. I know that sounds ridiculous but we literally can't do anything anymore :(

Re: ulcertive colitis anyone??d
he needs a good gastro. What has he done so far about it?
His case sounds worse than mine.
I no longer carry panties but I do use prep H wipes which make my bum feel so much better.
After Humira I'm not so worried about where the loo is.

Re: ulcertive colitis anyone??d
his case is so severe. He goes to the bathroom from like 1 fry or a piece of ANYTHING! He's on asacol and I don't know the other medicine, I'm gonna find out tonight but his gastro changed his medicine cause the first one didn't work but this one made it 10 times worse. He's stupid and hasn't gone back to change it again. The doctor offered the surgery but he refuses to do it. He doesn't want a colostomy bag even if it's for a month or 2. He also read that after the surgery, you go to the bathroom still a lot so he feels he'll have major surgery for basically the same outcome. He's a cop so the gastro is limited to what medications he can take as most have some crazy side effects and it wouldn't be good for him to be on the job with those side effects.
he was diagnosed a little over a year ago. He always had bathroom problems but we just thought cause he ate crap (he's a pizza, macaroni and cheese type of guy) we actually thought maybe he was lactose intolerant but he said he didn't care enough to change his eating habits. finally, it got REALLY bad and he went for an endoscopy and colonoscopy and the doctor couldn't even diagnose him right away. he wasn't sure what was wrong. finally he came up with ulcertive colitis and diverticulitis (spell check please haha)
I just want him to stop being in pain and to get our lives back. TMI, never happens really anymore because he's always in the bathroom, or his stomach is killing him. It's a miracle my son was conceived

Re: ulcertive colitis anyone??d
Is he following a strict diet in addition to the meds?
Has he spoken to a nutritionist in addition to the gastro?

Find out if he tried Humira or Remicade. Asacol/Pentasa did nothing for me. Hashe been on prednisone?
Remicade and Humira have no apparent side effects and are supposed to get you in remission.
Let me know if you need a new gastro.

Re: ulcertive colitis anyone??d
umm he sounds like he needs a new dr! My friends DH has this and needed corrective surgery - he stopped 3-4 times to use the bathroom when he drove 10 miles to work everyday. Ever since the surgery, he has been symptom free and just became a dad! His Dr. is at Mt. Sinai. The bag wasn't a big deal for him. Your DH needs to talk to others who have had it...

also, not always do they need a temp colostomy bag.
I had my small intestine resected and didn't need it.
