I need opinions and I need someone to listen to me so I can "vent"

I am not sure really were to start....
I have been at my job 19 yrs this month. I work for a doctor. My boss has been talking about downsizing his office and going into 1 office w/ his partner. So he told me he put in an ad to see if someone would buy his practice from him, he would go to the other office and take me w/ him becuase I will always have a job whether it is in office 1 or office 2. My boss is semi retired and I really have it good there. I have my masters degree but stayed on b/c my Dh makes decent $$$, we can always use more $$ who can't, I use this money I make at my job as pocket money- get my nails done, hair, buy little things you get the idea. Okay, so he tells me this and then says I can go to the other office. Fast forward to yesterday a dr. comes to look at the office and was there 30 minutes or so, he seemed interested. Later on in the day he tells me he would rather I stay in this office w/ the new dr. because I am experienced and he liked me as a worker- mind you the new dr met me for 30 seconds and said hello- I am flattered. My boss told me I make his office and hte pts would be lost w/ out me... But to me that sends out red flags- how in 30 seconds can he tell he likes me- sort of like when you are dating and a guy proesses his love after the first date- to me that is warning signs of a wacko, anyway, sorry to keep going on, so I tell my boss I would like to go to the other office and maybe work at this office w/ the new dr if he takes the practice- there are a lot of "if's" going on right now. My boss told me he was asking what I made an hour etc and he told me there would be a lot more hours offered to me w./ the new dr. I am scared to be honest. I am scared I will be fired, the new dr. has 2 offices already what is to say he is all talk and will get in a creep who will treat me like garbage- I left that 20 yrs ago at another office. I am just so confused and scared. I feel like I am being sold like a slave yet on the other hand does my boss still want me at his office # 2. I am so confused right now. Thanlks for listening if you made it this far.I really do not want to use my masters degree and work f/t, I really like p/t hours. WWYD? would you think my boss is trying to be nice and is letting me go in a nice way? Would you go with the new dr? What do you think of the whole situation?TIA

I had a hard time following the whole story, sorry long day. But i'm confused. On the one hand you say the new dr wants you to stay; on the other hand the old dr wants you with him?

The whole thing smells. They cut some weird deal in that 30 minutes, and somehow you are in the middle. I'd be very puzzled and want a straight answer from old dr. Don't you think you should know what's in your future? My god you've been there 19 years!! That says a lot!!

Since you've been with him for so long and have a good relationship with him, I would flat out ask him if he is trying to tell you in a nice way that the only way you'll have a job is to go with the new doctor. Maybe he's looking to sell the practice and retire 100%. Maybe he's got other personal issues going on and this is his way of dealing with it. Who really knows. However, since this is your job you're talking about, I think you deserve some answers to your questions and I talk to him about your concerns. HTH.

Honestly I would ask him flat out if he expects to bring you along to the new office. Dont tiptoe around this one. It he doesnt start looking elsewhere.

Best of luck

First off thank you all for listening to me and reading my looonnnggg post. It is the first thing he said to me- that I have a job no matter what. Then he says all the other stuff. After reading all of your replies last night and talking it over w/ my DH, I am leaning on the side of quitting - and really putting all of my energy into a small business I have and making it a real go. I also would really like to start a family and concentrate on that. I am not a piece of cattle and feel like I am being sold like one. This is what I feel right now- yes the patients will miss me, but I have to worry about myself. My degree will always be mine and no one can take it away from me. I am annoyed at my bosses partner who will not let him get out of his partership w/ him so he can keep office # 1. I have been pretty cold to my boss and his partner- just not as friendly as I was. I am dreading going to my bosses daughters wedding in August- I have not sent in the response yet on purpose. I know I am fortunate enough to have an amazing husband , and have been thru a lot in the past 19 yrs starting w/ my Mom dying then my dad passing all by the time I was 30 yrs old. So in conclusion, I will not be taken for granted or tossed around and be treated like I do not have any feelings. It has taken me a long time to get to this point and it feels good to worry about myself for once and not anyone else. My boss is only thinking of himself, as well as his partner in office #2. If this new dr. approaches me about a job, I will see what is offered to me , and take it from there. Thank you all again- you are the best!

Girl, it's time for a change. Perfect opportunity to break out and get that business going.

Keep your head high and go for it.

Best of luck.

Good for you! Sounds like you got some clarity for yourself which is always a good thing! All the best to you, you gave them a lot of good years, whatever the outcome.

BTW if you do end up leaving, just wait to hear how the patients will react!! They will flip trust me.
