walker hound puppy vs. lab mix puppy
okay, i am comparing my new hound puppy to my puppy i had years ago that was a lab mix.
the lab mix was a nutcase. rarely napped always getting into trouble total wack-job.
this puppy, naps, nips nice and lightly has already learned sit, and no (and the point of the finger he seems to know too .. i usually do that when i say no.. i almost don't need to say no anymore..weird).
could these puppies really be that much different?
i am a worry wart b/c he had pneumonia and still has some bronchial issues for a few weeks and keep watching him thinking "he's sick" he's not supposed to be this calm.
thanks!

they can be that different. I have a lab mix that loves to nap and hasn't been much trouble at all......learned everything right away (10-12 weeks)
And there is definitely a difference with breeds.

every dog can be different just like a child born to the same parents
but any time I have gotten a new dog, it usually takes them months to fully adjust and really find themselves
Also-him being sick could still have something to do with it
when we adopted my puppy, he was the calmest dog we met with and he was only 5 months old, whereas the other dogs were all older. we picked him because of that. well a week later we brought him to the vet and found out he was really really sick. it took awhile for him to find himself after the vet said he was all better.

Exactly. All bets are off, dog to dog. Some may be more apt to like or dislike things, or be better at certain things, but there are no guarantees.
I have one independent, hairy, short, wide, lazy Lab and one codependent, thin coated, tall, lanky, energetic Lab. They are different in almost everything they do. There are definitely more differences than there are similarities.
Heather is also right about their personality. We got one at 9 months and he's much different now than he was at even a year old. Things change, likes, dislikes, etc. You are the one that needs to stay consistent as you go through your training though.
