Re: dog crate
We crate trained both of our dogs as puppies. It was a way for us to ensure they didn't destroy the house while we were at work. Now the older dog we leave uncrated during the day and we are slowly starting to leave the younger one out. She loves her crate though- we find her in there a lot even when we're home and it's open.

Re: dog crate
I used a crate to house break Buddy. but after he was house broken we broke down the crate.
I think its a faster method for housebreaking.

Re: dog crate
my dog is crated while I'm at work, not at night. If I leave her loose, she jumps on counters, tables and gets into cabinets and eats things.. which isn't good for us or for her safety.
We have her in a an oversized crate that is meant for a 100lb+ dog and she's under 30lbs (I could fit 4 of her in there). It's her little house with a big cushy bed and she just sleeps while we're out. I like it oversized because she can get up, stretch and sleep in different spots. She goes in there on her own to lay while I cook dinner too.

Re: dog crate
We crate both of our dogs when we are not home. I was much easier to potty train since most dogs will not go to the bathroom in a small space. My dogs like their crates, its like their safe space and they go in there even on their own to nap. I know some ppl think its mean but I dont considering they seem to like it. My little dog chooses to go in even smaller spaces on his own. Example, he goes under our bed all the time, we call it his "office". Whenever we cant find him, we always say "check his office"

Re: dog crate
My dog LOVES her crate.. I crate trained her from the beginning so she was trained to go outside.. Now the door is open on it 24/7 and she loves it.. Its her safe place .. The minute I leave the house she goes in till I return
