Re: Dogs on the furniture
He is allowed on the couch in the basement and front room but NOT on my living room couch. I do find him occasionally on the living room couch but as soon as I say get down he will. It is definitely not too late to train him. Have you tried a water gun? tin foil? or pennies in a can?

Re: Dogs on the furniture
my parents dog went on the furniture for 12 yrs before my mom got a gorgeous set and didn't want her on it. My parents just kept shushing her off and would leave something long like the golf club or broom across it. After a week or so she stopped all together. But they did leave her the ottoman from their old set and thats where she would stay. My Maggie goes on the couch and I hate it.. I'm just too lazy to train her not to do it

Re: Dogs on the furniture
Both of our dogs are allowed on the couches and beds. Lucy is so spoiled that if there is no room on the couch- and trust me, she tries to lure you away so she can steal your seat- but if that doesn't work then she'll actually sit on the straight backed dining room table chairs. Anything, anything so that she doesn't have to lay on the floor.

Re: Dogs on the furniture
you have to be on top of them all the time about it, and you should be able to get them to stay off.

Re: Dogs on the furniture
Yes they are allowed on the furniture. I have small dogs though- both chihuahuas. If I had a bigger dog I probably wouldn't allow it!

Re: Dogs on the furniture
My Scarlette (48lbs black lab/ hound/ pointer mix---pics in my album) is only allowed on our bed and only when her sheet is on it. She was allowed on the sofa at first because of DH, but I put my foot down and said no. It took us about 3 weeks to teach her not to get on the sofa. Occasionally she would jump on it and jump right off because she knows is wrong.
She is 11 months now, so far so good. I am thinking about getting her off the bed too because she thinks the bed is hers. She will lay down and push us off

Re: Dogs on the furniture
we do not allow our dog on the couch - but he is an 85 lb golden retreiver - his hair makes a mess and he would take up half the couch
there are shock strips/collars that are used to train/ keep dogs off furniture- my friend let dogs on furniture for 5years and it stopped hers from going on new couches

Re: Dogs on the furniture
We have a yellow lab and he is not allowed on any furniture. When we first adopted him (at 6 months) we would find him sneaking on the couch and would kick him off. We were diligent about it and it seems to be better now (he's a year 7 months).
