Math Teachers - I need help!

I have a demo on Wed. The only thing I was told is to do a lesson using word problems on basic linear equations.

What types of problems would you do?

I have no math references at home to help me plan. I am so lost and confused on what to do. My husband says I am overthinking it. I just think I am stressed and already tired of interviewing.

Re: Math Teachers - I need help!

Thanks. Most of the sites I already looked at. I just hate going into a demo not really sure of what she is looking for since they didn't give me too many details for the lesson.

Re: Math Teachers - I need help!

Just keep this is mind:

I do (teacher shows, explains)

We do (practice together)

You do (students practice alone)

We look for this pattern at my school in a Demo lesson. The "lesson piece" should be no more then 10 minutes long.

Don't forget the Do Now (Motivation) and the conclusion (think exit ticket)

If you're looking for examples of what is found in word problems you can always do earnings = hours X pay or distance = rate X time.

Those are easy to insert student's names or local landmarks to make them a little more interesting.

Good luck

Thanks. These weren't the "types" of problems they were looking for. They wanted cell phone questions.

The demo went really well or so I thought. The students were engaged and participated.

When I sat down with the principal she ripped apart my lesson and project. She didn't like the conceptual order I did things in. Then I had to go up to the board to prove why 3^0 = 1 (or anything to the zero power excluding zero).

When she wasn't making me feel like crap about my lesson I thought the overall interview went well. They seemed interested in me. They have 2 positions. One is immediate, one is for next year.

I don't know what their overall opinion was because she really ripped into my lesson for about 45 minutes. I learned her background was math and she did curriculum or something in the past. But, I sure couldn't believe how uncomfortable I felt.

Overall, it was definitely a school I was excited about and would enjoy teaching in...but only time will tell.
