Corned Beef and Cababge Recipes
I bought corned beef...any recipes?
stovetop or slowcooker?
I know I need corned beef, cabbage, carrots and potatoes but I don't really know what to do with them....I never made corned beef before and I never cooked cabbage before either...so I'm afraid!
anyone want to share a recipe?

Re: Corned Beef and Cababge Recipes
This is the way I have always made it and it comes out really good.
basically in a pot, you put the corned beef and fill the pot with water to cover the beef and add the spice packet that it usually comes with it. Cook it on low for about an hour per lb of corned beef. First let the water boil and then slow cook it and about 45 minutes before it's done add potatoes, carrots and wedged cabbage to the water. Remove all of the items from the pot and add a little of the leftover water in the pot to the platter with everything on it so it doesnt dry out. Enjoy!

I cook mine in the slow cooker. I cover it with water and some beer, add the spice packet, a rough chopped onion a clove or 2 of garlic and whole red potatos. Cook on low for 6-8 hours.

Re: Corned Beef and Cababge Recipes
i always cook it in a huge pot.....i make a lot so the slow cooker is too small.
put the coned beef in the pot, cover with cold water-add one can or bottle of beer. add the seasoning packet. bring it to a boil then let it simmer for a few hours. an hour before you want to serve it i add the cabbage and potatoes (i don't do carrots) i cute the cabbage in 1/4's or 1/8's depending on the size of it and the potatoes in 1/4's
always comes out good.

Re: Corned Beef and Cababge Recipes
My recipe is from a friend and basically you rub brown sugar all over the beef then place it in the slow cooker. Pour a can of guinness to cover it and cook on low for 6-7 hours.
This year I'm roasting the cabbage. I'm cutting it int thick triangular pieces and roasting.
ETS: I'm not including potatoes (forgot to buy them) but you could roast them with the cabbage as well as the carrots.

Re: Corned Beef and Cababge Recipes
I made this, this weekend. Came out great!!
* approx 2 cups baby carrots * 2 onions, chopped * 2 lb. corned beef brisket with seasoning packet * 12 oz. bottle lager * 2 Tbsp. yellow mustard * 1/4 cup brown sugar * 1 cup water * 8 wedges cabbage
In 4-6 quart crockpot, combine carrots and onions. Rinse the corned beef and pat dry. Place in crockpot and sprinkle with seasoning packet contents. Pour lager over brisket and spread mustard on top. In small bowl, mix brown sugar with water and pour over brisket. Cover crockpot and cook on low setting for 10 hours.
Remove corned beef from crockpot and cover with foil. Add cabbage to crockpot with the veggies. Turn up to HIGH for another 30-40 mins or until cabbage is tender.
ETA- I did this on the stove b/c I had 2 other corned beefs going in 2 crock pots.

It's usually included in the package when you buy the corned beef.
One other thing you can do if you cook the corned beef stovetop is to skim the fat off the top of the water every so often and add more water as needed. You don't need to do this, but corned beef is such a fatty piece of meat that I feel like this helps remove some of the fat/grease but still keeps the flavor.
