High cholesterol
What should my first steps be? Diet and exercise I know....but exactly what??
DH's is even higher than mine, so we both need to make some changes.

Increase your physical activty. Increase the fiber in your diet (whole grains, fruits/vegetablse), limit red meats, limit saturated fats, switch to nonfat dairy. Stay away from hydrogenated oils (they raise the bad LDL and decrease the good HDL cholesterol)

First evaluate your current diet. What are typical meals and how can you make them healthier? Eliminate fried foods and limit saturated fats. Increase whole grains and fiber in your diet. Oatmeal is an excellent food to help lower your cholesterol...but the benefit is from the whole oats so stick to the tradition whole oats that you must boil not the sugar laden just add water type. Increase green leafy veggies. At each meal HALF of your plate should be veggies. Get moving if you do not currently exercise aim for 3 times a week to start. You can come over to the diet and fitness board for more ideas. The ladies on the board are great.
