Do you use pacifiers?
I was anti binky with DS. But now realized I substituted the binky with nursing.
Can't do that with twins and an almost 3 year old so I have been torn.
A couple of times I have given them the binky it worked like a charm, they fell asleep right away and when it fell out it was no big deal. Then other times they cry every.single.time it falls out and it winds up being a 3 hour exercise trying to get them to sleep.
I know they are so little and still learning the whole binky thing, but I wonder if I am starting a bad habit that I will eventually need to break anyway.
So BTDT multiple moms - what are your thoughts on pacifiers?

Re: Do you use pacifiers?
Right now my twins only use the paci during the day. It just kind of worked out that way. I kind of hope it stays that way, I figure it will be easier to take it away eventually.

Until the babies STTN, do whatever you have to in order to get them to sleep!

Re: Do you use pacifiers?
i offered them, they used them to calm down, at night it was too annoying with them falling out, i just stopped offering around 3 months and they never complained, they weren't too dependent on them, but i had no problem offereing, and i gave them a few more times when they were first teething, it helped soothe their gums if it works use it but i wouldnt force it

Re: Do you use pacifiers?
I have always used it with DS (DD never cared much for it). It had been super helpful in calming him and getting him to sleep. However, I would really warn against using it for sleeping. I think it is an excellent calming tool, at other times. But, DS became so obsessed with it, that he couldn't fall alseep without it and I would be up all night putting it back in. Now, that he is 8mo old, he can put it in on his own. But, he still has issues getting himself to sleep at times when he doesn't have it (i.e. if he has a cold). Soooo, that is my two cents...stay away from getting them to sleep with the binky at all costs!
For me, swaddling, sound machine, Shushing, rocking, etc. all helped when they were tiny.

Re: Do you use pacifiers?
DD never took it and slept through the night starting at 11 weeks. We were lucky. I tried giving her one but she would just pop it out. Now she is obsessed with giving the babies at daycare their pacifiers and I definitely don't plan on giving the twins pacifiers for that reason. I'm afraid of her just poking them in the face all the time with it and taking it out and putting it in, etc.
Though, when the time comes I might do it anyway, who knows what lack of sleep does to you!
I have heard horror stories of 6-9+ olds that can't sleep without it and when it falls out they scream in the middle of the night and you have to run in all the time to give them the paci. This is from family, so I'm sure it doesn't happen to everyone. Though it does scare me.
