Hi all... my shih tzu came in from outside with his eye tearing and closed, I assumed he screatched it on a bush or something....he has done it before and dr. would give us eye ointment and it would heal.

this time I took him - same dr. she said since it happened 2x already, once this heals - she wants to check for dry eye...is this something serious. How can that leave a scratch?

I asked her these questions and she said not serious but needs to be treated - but I didn't understand how he could have gotten a scratch from something else other than actually scratching it..

he is now with his cone on for a week and I am giving ointment 3x a day , poor thing, she said it is painful.

anyone have experience with this?
