Shih Tzu owners....Eye question
I have read a lot about how Shih Tzu have runny eyes that gunk up because of their pushed-in snouts. I was wondering if there are any tips to keep them clean, other than the two time a day cleaning that I've been doing. Thanks!

I bought angel eyes for my dog, and that has done wonders to clear up her eyes. Its made of all natural ingredients, you put it in the food. My dog is a very picky eater and she likes the taste of it.

Re: Shih Tzu owners....Eye question
If you are taling about tear stains than I have found the best stuff.. Its NOT only for Maltese stay white
If your are talking about gook than I just clean it out every second I see it.. I am a freak about that.. My poor dog.. I am like a monkey mom.. I can also show you before and after I found the stay white.. I would not recommend angel eyes.. its an antibiotic and my Vet told me over a long period of use she may become immuned to that antibiotic that she may need one day.. Also my dog threw it up BEFORE
AFTER..
Its no joke this tear stain stuff is a miracle.. HTH

Re: Shih Tzu owners....Eye question
Thanks for the info. Her eye hair is dark, so it's not staining the area. I was just wondering if there was a way to keep the gunkiness to a minimun lol.

Re: Shih Tzu owners....Eye question
The groomer told me to switch to using filtered water for my shih tzu. The minerals/iron in regular tap water can cause the pinkish tear stains. (If you wipe the water bowl with a paper towel after regular tap water you will actually see the same color on the paper towel). We switched to giving him Poland Spring last week so I will let you know what happens and if I see any difference. I am sure it will probably take some time to notice anything, and I figured before I resort to using something on him, water is the most natural help for now!

Re: Shih Tzu owners....Eye question
angel eyes is a wonderful product and used by many groomers! changing it's water really doesn't have anything to do with it. shih tzu's and maltese's are prone to getting tear duct stains regardless.

Re: Shih Tzu owners....Eye question
I am sure you are referring to the "eye snot" as I call it and not the problem of staining the hair???
I have a Shorkie (1/2 Shih Tzu) and I have to clean Bella's eyes all the time as well. There is nothing you can do I was told, it's a natural thing that happens.

Re: Shih Tzu owners....Eye question
You can always ask the vet at your baby's next appointment if he/she recommends anything. My vet didn't have any problem with us giving my dog the angel eyes, but some vets do.
