I'm so sorry for your loss. I was tearing up as I read this and thought about my dog. She's only 4 - but I can't imagine when the day comes. I've been through it with other pets and it is so heartbreaking. As always - time heals all wounds.

I'm so sorry. I couldn't be in the room when my cat was euthanized. I sat in the waiting room holding my son who was only 10 months old bawling my eyes out. I was actually looking up how to handle grief like that as an adult. I decided to a modified take on a kids book on gried and I simply made a list of 10 great things about her, things that made her special and special to me. The way she liked to sit in the wet bathtub after I showered, the way she was a one person cat and I was her one person. I read to my husband then and it didn't feel silly or childish or anything, it really helped a lot.

It still hurts 8 years later but it changes, I promise.

It is so hard losing a pet, they really are family. I can remember the exact day I lost all of my family pets and where I was at that time. I will never forget it, so hard to say goodbye.

It was best for Helmut and he is in a better place.

when we had to put my first child down(yellow lab) i cried every day for 2 weeks, like a little baby. it was really like loosing my child. i could still cry when i think about him.

Only time really.
It's SOOOO hard and it's so raw right now.
Just let yourself grieve. Cry as much as you need to.
It will get easier over time, I promise.
Now I can look back on my cat and smile more than I cry.
It just takes a long time.
