Runners - chafing?
I started running a little over a month ago (on week 4 of C25K ), and I keep reading about chafing with runners. Is this something that everyone gets in the warmer weather? Is it just from wearing shorts? I have about 5 more pounds to lose before my thighs quit touching, so will it then be a non-issue (I'm pretty bow-legged so when I get below a certain weight they don't come close to touching )?

Re: Runners - chafing?
I do one of two things: i use GLIDE (you can get it at Dicks Sporting Goods or any running store). Sometimes I also wear bicycle shorts under my running shorts.
As far as them not touching anymore- when I stand up straight with my feet together, my thighs don't touch (I have that space in between- woohoo I worked hard to get that lol). However, I still get chafing. My dad is a runner with the skinniest legs ever and still gets it.

Re: Runners - chafing?
I've been really lucky, I rarely get any chafing. Used to get it under my sports bra, but found one that doesn't do that anymore.

Re: Runners - chafing?
You can get chafing from various reasons. Usually it's either from a piece of material in your top or shorts that rubs against the skin or it can simply be from your body's natural movement. Some people never chafe.
If you get it between your thighs, you can try using tights or bike shorts. There are also various lubes on the market which work well too. You just rub them on the area that chafes before your run. If it's a long run, you may need to reapply.

Re: Runners - chafing?
A good old fashion pair of spandex under your shorts will prevent this. I learned this in basic training, make sure you buy a pair that comes down to where your thighs stop touching. Trust me DH had this problem last year too (he is extremely muscular) and he refused to buy stretchy shorts, so I went and got them for him, finally after breaking skin he tried them and hasn't turned back since.

Usually this happens when boobs are pushed together and laying lower than they are used too, causing them to rub. I loooove Title Nine Bra's!

Re: Runners - chafing?
I wear tighter/"biking" shorts. They aren't always skin tight - they've come a long way!

Re: Runners - chafing?
I too have been extremely lucky in that I never had chafing. Maybe, just maybe once and it was slight.
However, it is rare that I run in shorts. Cotton capris are much more comfortable, IMO and I dont' think they are much hotter to run in.

Re: Runners - chafing?
I guess I am thankful that my legs are too chunky & I am too self-conscious to run in shorts No problems with chafing here.
