Depends on the child but I would think about 12.

Re: At What age..

Thanks everyone who answered. My DD is 11 now and very responsible and i don't know if I am ready to cut the strings and leave her home for an hour. I even leave work 15 minutes early so i'm home before she gets home from school.

Some of her friends have been staying home since they were 8 or 9....and i'm like well i'm not their mom....

Re: At What age..

I said 12 as I have a 12, almost 13 year old. I think she was about that age, maybe 11, closer to 12 when she was left home alone.

Re: At What age..

While I agree with the AP that said it depends on the child, I would think 11 or 12 would be appropriate.

My instant answer to the poll was 11.

It's funny...just THIS morning, DH and I were discussing this. Now that I have the three with me all.day.long for the next couple of weeks, it is super-hard to run out for iced coffee. My DC are 5, 4 and 7.5 months. We agreed it would be five to six years before I could leave them for a little while.

I was home 15 -30 minutes by myself in 3rd grade until my older sister got home. I'm not sure I could do that (maybe when the youngest gets there i will)

I think 11-12 is a good age.

Re: At What age..

Depends on the kid. My son is 10 and he's not remotely ready to be left alone for any length of time. I think 12 is reasonable.
