Epidural Steroid Injections/Surgery/Surgeon questions
A friend of mine has two herniated discs and a bulging disc in her neck and has gone through Chiro, Ortho/Neuro with medication treatment (inc. steroid course), PT and now her neuro wants her to go through Epidural Steroid Injections...
She has an appt with a Pain Management Facility, but is hesitant...
Anyone go through these? Anyone have success?
If not, did you have surgery and if so, who was your surgeon and would you recommend him/her?
Sorry for all the questions but she's a nervous wreck. She's not on this forum and I told her I would ask around. ANY info would be GREAT!
TIA!

Re: Epidural Steroid Injections/Surgery/Surgeon questions
i've had 5 total, 3 on my lower back and 2 for my neck. the ones on my neck didn't help. the lower back, i had some success with the first two shots, 3rd did nothing. i've got 2 herniated discs in my neck and 1 in my lower back. so far, its been 9 or 10 months with my neck, and i've avoided the surgery. PT wasn't especially helpful either. can't say i'm in good shape, i still have alot of pain... but i'm trying to hold out on surgery at the moment. i do have a back surgeon i like though, since he already did 2 operations on my lower back. dr. jeff silber in great neck. he operated out of LIJ.

Re: Epidural Steroid Injections/Surgery/Surgeon questions
DH had a discectomy last year. He had a herniated disc that was compressing his spinal column. Surgery was the only option for him as shots and PT wouldn't fix the issue. DH saw Dr. DeWal from the Long Island Spine Specialists in Commack. As soon as he woke up from surgery he pretty much pain free. DH was filled with anxiety going into surgery but he couldn't live with the pain he was suffering with. I (and DH) totally recommend Dr. DeWal. FM me if you have any questions.
