Bunion Surgery - a few questions
For those who have had bunion surgery, I have a few questions:
-How long were you out of work for?
-Did you have both feet done at the same time (is this even possible)?
-When were you able to wear normal shoes?
-Are you able to wear high heels? Can you wear anything over 3" or does that cause too much pain?
Thanks so much!

Re: Bunion Surgery - a few questions
My Mom did...
She was out of work the recommended 6 weeks
Yes, she had both feet done at the same time. She wanted it all to be over faster. Why drag it out over 6 weeks x 2 when you can do it all at once.
She was able to wear much more normal shoes after. She always deformed her shoes before the surgery and that doesn't happen anymore.
Good luck!

Ahh...6 weeks! I couldn't afford to stay home from work that long.
Of course, if it was a medically necessary surgery, I wouldn't have a choice. But right now, it's elective.

Re: Bunion Surgery - a few questions
I had it done on 4/4
I was out of work for 3 weeks.
I still cannot wear my sneakers which is what I usually wear to work. I tried to get my foot into my heels for a weeding I had last week but my foot would not fit into it.

Re: Bunion Surgery - a few questions
My SILs friend had it done. She only did one foot and was out of work for several weeks (I'm not sure exactly how long). Now she says she will never get the other one done because it was so painful. She wore sneakers for a while, but now she's wearing heels again.

Re: Bunion Surgery - a few questions
I had it done in high school, but I did it on the Friday after Thanksgiving and went back to school on Monday... I had one foot done, but two is sometimes easier and you can just use a wheel chair.. I had surgery about 8 years ago and I can finally wear high heel shoes now. The residual swelling lasted forever and it was also hard to find shoes since the surgery foot was a size smaller than my normal foot. I also had hammer toe removals done at the same time. It was a great experience, unlike some of the horror stories I hear

I work for a podiatrist.... Usual post op recovery is 6-8 weeks. It is not recommeneded to do both at once, but it can be done. There is residual swelling for up to a year. HTH

Thanks. I just made an appt. to see a podiatrist. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope he says they aren't that bad.
