If you work FT AND are a mom.......
How often do you "work out"?
I am NOT a gym person but go to a hot yoga class.
I made it to 14 classes in June, which I think is pretty damn good for being a FTWM, but I STILL feel guilty that I didn't go more than that.
It's the TIME thing though.

Re: If you work FT AND are a mom.......
I go to the gym tues night, thurs night and sat mornings. Thurs and Sat I bring the girls with me and they go to babysitting.
I was also doing Couch to 5k 3 nights a week after they went to bed until I hurt my knee. Now I've been doing 30 day Shred almost every night after they go to sleep. I like C25K and 30 day Shred because they both take less than a half hour.

Re: If you work FT AND are a mom.......
im out of the house 11 hours a day, 7am-6pm. DS goes to bed around 7. by the time i eat dinner, prepare for the next day its like 9pm. i have no time and no money to join a gym. and i have a bad knee so i cant run.
but im trying to find ways...like i canceled my metrocard and walk from Atlantic Ave to my job everyday. thats about 1.5 miles. and im planning to pick a room each night to clean...killing 2 birds with one stone.

When I worked FT I went to gym at 5am -6:30. OR at night after SO came home. Its HARD but once it over with (am) I felt great and knew it was out of the way.
I dont work now (lay off) and have an elliptical and I jogg some days. I have 8lb dumbells and an exercise ball. Had to cancel gym membership.

Re: If you work FT AND are a mom.......
I work FT. There is no way I can wake up early enough to work out in the morning or have enough motivation to work out at night after the kids are in bed.
There is a gym in my building. I go M, W, F during my lunch hour and eat at my desk.
Just last Sat I took DD in the jogging stroller and went for a run. It was the first time I tried it and it wasn't too bad.
I'm going to try to do that at least one day during the weekend.

Re: If you work FT AND are a mom.......
I get to the gym 3-5 days a week, depending on DH's work schedule. I just to make time for myself, and leave the kids with DH while I went for an hour.

Re: If you work FT AND are a mom.......
My ILs are my childcare, and while I would love to be able to make the 6AM yoga class during the week, there is no way in hell I would do that to them and drop DS off that early.
I also will not leave DS with them late so I can go to yoga, so I am usually at the mercy of DH's schedule.
I mostly attend the 8PM class during the week and one weekend class when DH is home.
If I was a gym person, I'd join a 24 hour gym but again, I hate the gym.

Re: If you work FT AND are a mom.......
I go to the gym 4-5 days a week, workout 6 days.
My gym is right across the street from my job, so I go during lunch.
But there are so many things you can do at home with little to no equipment. So many at home workouts that are not DVD based and they are pretty good.

Re: If you work FT AND are a mom.......
I'm a FTWM with 2 DDs (3yo and 8m) and I usually go 3-4 nights during the week, Sat and Sun morning. My gym offers childcare otherwise I probably wouldn't be able to go, since DH works a FT and PT job plus is a FT student, so his hours are wacky.

Re: If you work FT AND are a mom.......
5 days a week. I workout at the gym, or at home (I have a treadmill and elliptical at home) after the girls go to sleep, around 7:30/8pm. Usually for about 40-45 minutes.
I also walk everyday during my lunch break, about 2-3 miles.

Re: If you work FT AND are a mom.......
when not pregnant, I run 5-6 times a week (45 min -3 hours long) and weight train 1-3 times a week.
I do a lot in the morning, before everyone wakes up (5:30) and I get out at 3:30, so I have time to do some running then.
DH works from home, so that helps. I don't have to worry too much about his work schedule, it's his golf schedule that interferes

Re: If you work FT AND are a mom.......
Not nearly as much as I should. Being a working FT SINGLE mom, It's even harder. No time to get the gym. No money to pay for the gym. So, I do Bethenny Frankel's Yoga at least 1-2 times per week and I walk with DS and the dog at least 3 times per week. I try my best, but it's hard to carve out "me" time.

When I return to work I plan to go 5 times a week. I go very early in the morning though, around 5-6 am. It's hard at first but I really enjoy working out in the mornings.

Re: If you work FT AND are a mom.......
Never.
3 kids, work F/T and a DH who has crazy hrs....nope, no gym. no time.
So I try to incorporate it by biking to work, or walking with the kids.

Re: If you work FT AND are a mom.......
3 days a week I workout at the gym (hour of cardio and alternate between upper body and lower body weight/resistance training) and 3 days a week I run outside (2 days about 6 miles and 1 day a minimum of 10 miles).
I am out the door when the nanny gets to my house at 7am and Sunday mornings I take my DD to the gym with me (nursery). My DH works crazy hours, so the compromise was to have a nanny start early so I can fit a workout in everyday, otherwise I wouldn't be able to do it. It's really important to me to be able to do this. I have toned it down a bit since DD and decided not to train for a marathon this year...I'm still getting used to the constant tiredness.

Re: If you work FT AND are a mom.......
Not enough Right now, I am off for the summer, so I can run 5 times a week. During the school year, I would run Saturday and Sunday and *try* to get up at 5 one or 2 days during the week (I was not often successful). My schedule is changing for next year though, so I am hoping that helps. I might be able to run after school a few days a week before I pick DD up from daycare, or pick her up earlier and run when we get home.

Re: If you work FT AND are a mom.......
I actually stopped going to Hot Yoga because of the time commitment and being a FTWM & having DH work evenings. Now I work out early in the morning for 45-60 minutes tops and I do this 5x a week. It doesn't take time away from the family because it's always before they wake up.

I know!!! It's such a pain for that reason. I really wish they had a 7:30AM class during the week so I could go before work. Or I wish they'd do an hour class instead since it's not an official "Bikram" studio. They have the 6AM now but like I mentioned, that's just WAY too early.

Re: If you work FT AND are a mom.......
During the school year, I aim for at least 4 days per week, but I'd rather do 5 days a week. I don't belong to a gym. I run 3-4 times per week and do a weight training DVD once or twice.

Re: If you work FT AND are a mom.......
FTWM and SINGLE mom but I do what I can and make it a priority and other things get sacrificed because in the long run my health is more important than a clean house LOL. Basically, my kids may have to sit and watch me work out (or they join me), my home is not as clean as it should, and I don't work long hours.
I dont have a long commute and when my kids are in school I go for a run because I have just enough time from getting out of work and when their after school program finishes. And, of course STBX takes them 1-2 nights here and there on wekends so I do something then.
I am not trying to lose any weight, just maintain what I've worked at over the last few years. I am mindful of what I eat too.
My typical week I will do a 30 min jog/powerwalk 2 times and another day a 45 min circuit training video. Sometimes I just do a 20-30 min walk during lunch, go up and down stairs a bunch of times, or a 20-30 min Excercise TV video on demand.

Re: If you work FT AND are a mom.......
Since DD was born (almost a year) I have relied on DVDs (Biggest Loser ones, I have 4) and I have an elliptical. I also purchased 2, 5 and 8 lb weights, a medicine and one of the big balls to do abs on. I did have a NYSC membership but once I went back to work I cancelled as I only joined because of classes and was not able to make the classes.
Since February I have been running. I run first thing on Saturday and Sunday mornings when DH is here. During Mon-Fri, I try to run outside one more time after work (usually no more than 3-4 miles due to time) and then I will do another night on the elliptical because I have horrendous knees.
MY DH can sometimes work crazy hours so sometimes I end up doing a DVD at like 10pm, even if its just a segment from 30 day shred. I am exhausted but feel better knowing I did something.
