KG Moms - backpack related
What are you going to do with Backpacks this year?
I know there were talks of character bags and lands end.
My DD is excited to pick a backpack. At her preschool, they gave you "their" bag to use so she was disappointed we had to return her Ariel backpack last year.
I think I am going to let her pick.

I don't have a kindergartner this year, but I definitely think you should let her pick her own stuff. I always do with my kids. For my them, part of the back to school fun is choosing their new gear. They stopped picking character backpacks when they were ready, so let her choose whatever she wants, and let her be a kid as long as she wants!

Re: KG Moms - backpack related
Last year I got DD a Lands End backpack and matching lunchbox/bag. She got to pick the color and the embroidered picture (no name or monogram, I'm too paranoid). She really likes it and is using it again this year.
This year DS saw a Darth Vader backpack in the PBKids catalog that he REALLY wanted. Talked about it daily. So I ordered it and it looks pretty good, I hope to get through K & 1st with it and then I'll get him a Lands End or LL Bean one too.
In DD's K class last year the girls bags were about half character, half plain, and a few other types thrown in (tie dyed messenger bags, etc)

My kids picked out backpacks & lunchbags (character for both) last week at TRU. It was a thrill for them. I'll probably do the lands end ones for 2nd grade.

Re: KG Moms - backpack related
DS started Kindergarten last year with a character backpack- it only lasted for a few months before the front plastic-y side just ripped open. I ordered a cute Wildkin brand dinosaur backpack that DS wanted -- It held up very well. Sometime this spring, Lands End had a crazy sale where I ordered a backpack and matching lunchbox for just over $9.00 shipped. It's waiting in his closet for 1st grade. :)

I let him choose his camp backpack from TRU. I plan to buy him a Lands end bp to start school. I want something that will last the whole year.

I want to get my son a LE or similar backpack, but he saw a Super Mario one and asks for it every day. I think I'm going to let him choose. Kindergarten is a big step for him and I can always replace it later on.

Re: KG Moms - backpack related
My son was excited to pick his backpack and after our debate on why he shouldn't have an icarly one, he picked a Chuggington one from Toys R Us with the matching lunchbox. Kindergarden is a big step and I wanted him to be excited with the process.
