Portfolios - "in" or "out"?

Portfolios - "in" or "out"?
When I first starting teaching, portfolios were all the rage. You had to have 1 and pretty much every district I interviewed with looked at it.
Are they still necessary? Mine needs some serious updating!

We haven't looked at portfolios for TA's because there just isn't enough time in the schedule to. I haven't been in on a teacher interview though.... but I have a feeling they don't look then either.

I recently went on 2 interviews for Catholic schools. Both principals spent the majority of the time looking at my portfolio and generating questions based on what they saw. For the building sub position I am in now, the principal asked on the interview to look at mine as well.

I interviewed for three jobson L.I. over the last few years and they all looked through my portfolio.
