Spinoff of medication
Do you get sick often? I very rarely get sick. I haven't had the flu in over 20 years. I very rarely get colds or don't feel good(maybe once every 3 years?) My sister gets sick a lot, so I wonder if it's genetic, lifestyle etc...

Re: Spinoff of medication
I never did really until this past year.
Mostly cold/allergies and flu-like symptoms.
I think it's a combo of things: 1.) Young child. 2.) work a stressful job in health care. 3.) I practice hot yoga at least 3x a week so am around a lot of sweat and other people "detoxing" and go from really hot to cold/AC.

I do not, never have. I attribute it to not being a germophobe--I am not one to wash my hands every 2 minutes. I am CLEAN don;t get me wrong but I some people I know are so afraid of germs they live in a practically sterile enviroment and i think that makes them get sick more often.

Re: Spinoff of medication
I get sick sick every other year or so - usually an upper respiratory infection or something like that. And I'll get one or two colds in the winter but they are more annoying then anything.

I am the same and completely agree with why. If your body is not exposed to germs it never builds the antibodies to fight them.

Re: Spinoff of medication
really sick? probably once a year because everyone in my office has a young child and they come in with sickness.
I do however suffer from exhaustion once or twice a year where I take off mentally from work for a day or two. I work two jobs on average so its bound to happen.

Re: Spinoff of medication
I wonder this all the time. My SIL gets sick on every single vacation we take. It's gotten SO bad that she goes to the doctor pre-emptively and gets a prescription of antibiotics in anticipation of being sick on vacation. I swear it has to be some mind thing because I manage to get sick maybe once a year (If that!) and that's in the winter and mostly due to my asthma.
ETA: I'm in the same boat, I don't consider myself a germaphobe. I'm clean but I abide by the 5 second rule. I really think that constantly using antibacterial stuff on your hands is probably not the best idea. My co-worker does and she's sick every other week. I did get a stomach virus this past winter, but that was the first time since I was a teenager! It was awful though!

Re: Spinoff of medication
I get sick all the time....have a cold that turns into something else at least every other month.
My mom is NEVER sick. Maybe once every few years and she doesn't really lead a super healthy lifestyle. I read a study once that says people who drink hot beverages everyday (like coffee, tea, etc) are less likely to get sick. I can't remember the specifics, but thought it was interesting. I don't drink hot beverages (mom does)

Re: Spinoff of medication
I used to be sick with a cold or upper respiratory infection every couple of months. In the past couple of years or so, I have barely been sick at all.
I think that it has a decent amount to do with environment. My childhood home was germophobe central, and I think never being around any germs really weakened my immune system.

Rarely get sick
A cold or 2 in the winter- more this past winter with DD carrying germs home from daycare.
But even she doesn't get sick much considering she is in daycare.

I also rarely get sick...make a sore throat/stuffy nose for 3 days per year....I'm a teacher so I think that has helped build up my immunity. Strep ran rampid in my class this year and I was so happy it didn't take me down! Lol

Re: Spinoff of medication
I'll go through phases where I'll get sick a lot one year... and the next year I'll be pretty lucky.
Lately I've been pretty good ... although now that I said that, I'm pretty sure I just jinxed myself into coming down with the bubonic plague

Re: Spinoff of medication
I rarely get sick. Haven't had to take an antibiotic in probably 10 years. I did have the flu a few years ago, and that definitely was not fun. The most I get is a slight cold.

Re: Spinoff of medication
I rarely got sick until my first started preschool last year! Then I had one sinus infection and it was all down hill from there! Before that I handn't been on antibiotics for sickness since HS! I think a lot of it depends on what you are exposed to in your daily life. I would go years without getting sick and hadn't had the flu since HS (still havent actually). But, once I had a germy 3 yr old coughing and sneezing in my face all night long - it was unavoidable

Re: Spinoff of medication
Can't remember the last time I was sick. Sure, I get the sniffles every now and then, but a sick in bed type of thing, nope! Hardly ever!
And knock on wood, my kids haven't had a sick visit in more than 2 years! The only doc visits have been for their annual check ups!
