Vaccinations
Do you think this caused your DC's delay if they are on the spectrum. I just don't think so and my FIL is adamant that it is. His best friend has an Autistic son.
Maybe I am biased because my son never had language before the dreaded MMR shot. So when I hear kids lose language after that, etc., then I think I might be inclined to say it had something to do with it if that happened to DS.
I am not trying to start a messy debate and trust me when I say I completely respect the opinions of those who think it is because of the vaccines. I just feel like I am fighting a losing battle with him. My MIL asked why I didn't call and tell them the weights, etc from their last visit and I said I didn't want a debate with your husband.
I think a lot of things...he was a twin, it could be some genetic issue, it could be a fluke, it could be environmental, etc. I just feel like he thinks I'm a bad mother for continuing with the vaccination schedule the ped gives us (and maybe I am based on my belief that it wasn't the vaccinations that caused his PDD/NOS). DH no help. His father only says it to me and he tells me to ignore him.
Thanks for reading. Hope Irene is a bust!

Re: Vaccinations
Yes. And it was not the MMR. I am convinced it was after the DTaP.
I don't care what anyone thinks of my allegations. Nobody will change my mind.
And yes, I do think environment could add to the issues. I also think you could be predisposed to it when born. That "some" triggers contributes to PPD-NOS or full bloom autism.
I do think most people have quirks. So I think a lot of people could be "borderline" but not enough to call it anything. Like some people are VERY OCD. Can't focus too well. Yet not enough to not brush it off.
ETA: DS gets his vaccination. He got delayed for a bit with them but he is now right on schedule. I still do only 1 shot per visit.

Re: Vaccinations
Shots had nothing to due with DD's diagnosis. She was adopted and didn't recieve any shots until she was about a year old and I knew as soon as we got her that something was "off".
Now i don't know anything about her family history but I do know she was a premie and was severly malnurished when we recieved her. That is what I think caused her issues.
But honestly I'm not too concerned on why it happened I'm more focused on what I can do to make the future better. I can't change her past.

Re: Vaccinations
I agree with Sophie. I believe it was the dtap. My son had language, eye contact. Why did he have such a bad reaction to this shot? I don't know. I can't sit here and keep wandering what caused it. I need to focus my energy in how to make it better.

Re: Vaccinations
My brother had a HORRIBLE reaction to the DTaP. Shortly after he started showing symptoms. But my mom feels it was more a catalyst than a cause. She was speaking to a neurologist that said any kind of brain injury could cause autism. For my brother, that was a super high fever and he was unable to move his body without screaming in pain.
That being said it scares me to no end to give my son vaccines. But I will, because the consequences of not vaccinating him are far worse to me. I couldn't imagine watching him suffer through something like whooping cough or the measles.

Re: Vaccinations
Cole also had a horrible reaction to the DTaP. If anyone is interested: Dr. Palevsky will be speaking in Greenlawn on August 30th
Are Vaccines Safe and Effective? An Educational Opportunity for Parents and Practitioners In this workshop, you will hear discussions on vaccine science:
•What is current vaccine science and who is funding it and doing it? •How do vaccines work, and have they done, and do they do what we’re told they do? •What role do vaccine ingredients play when injected into infants and children? •What do the ingredients do to our children once they’re injected? •Do vaccines contribute to the development of chronic illnesses in children? •How do our children get into school if they’re not vaccinated? •How does the immune system work in babies and children? Attendees will hear some of the answers to these questions, along with the research that questions whether vaccines are safe and effective, and whether the scientific process is even at work to prove the answers to these questions. Attendees will also be asked to look at the issues that drive us to make the decisions we make, many of which come to us through fear, bullying, uncertainty, and a lack of knowledge, and to perhaps think alternatively about how illnesses occur and disappear.
