IF I were to get my 8.5 week old's vaccinations delayed...
My DD has her first shots next week....I am still considering delaying the schedule....which shots should I get delayed and why? I am doing my own research, but I am curious as to what you all have done.
My parents and other family members are telling me "what if" something happens....I know the whole deal about no evidence linking vaccines with autism, but what shots do most people delay (if any at all) and why those particular shots?

Re: IF I were to get my 8.5 week old's vaccinations delayed...
I know that people used to think that the MMR--given I think at 18 months, had a link to autism. Dr's say no, but I am still a little sceptical(like I am with anything...being that no one knows what causes autism). I did not delay my sons shots, persay, but I only allow 2 shots per visit, so he is a little behind.

4 or 8 shots!!!? No way, only get 2 at most at each visit. I would not delay them at this age,it is vaccintions as they get older that are newerto the markey and controversial. Here comes flu season, keep her vaccinations up to date

The newborn ones you should do ...they are the easiest and less controversial.

Most docs won't give more than 2 at each visit, it is an overload on their little bodies.

Re: IF I were to get my 8.5 week old's vaccinations delayed...
I delayed all until 5 months because I just didn't see the need for them. Then I let her get 1-2 shots at a time. I meant extra trips to the ped. but that is fine by me. I am still undecdided if I will do her MMR yet or not. I will probably wait until closer to when she will be starting preschool. I have and xcel sheet of our schedule if you would like me to email it to you.
ETA: We also refused HepB in the hospital and DD still has not had any of that. When I feel it's necessary she will get it. I am not against vaccinating I just think the schedule is over the top and unneccessary.

To clarify though, ours were two needles, but 4 vaccines.
They combine some.

It's five different immunizations in 3 injections at 2 months. That's the recommendation anyway.

Re: IF I were to get my 8.5 week old's vaccinations delayed...
When my DD was 2 and 4 months, she got her vaccines on schedule- 4 shots and one oral vaccine. 1. Prevnar- against strep pneumonia -which causes pneumonia and meningitis. 2. DtaP- diptheria, tetanus, and pertusis - pertusis is very common in older people and is a bad cough, but can be fatal to small infants. 3. Hep B/Hib, given as Comvax together. Since Hib has been given, the incidence of epiglotitis and meningitis has decreased dramatically. 4. Polio 5. Rotateq- the new rotavirus vaccine.
In my opinion, it does no good to give 2 at a time each month. Instead of getting fussy each month, we get it over once every 2 months.
The American Academy of Pediatrics has information including a schedule. You can find it here: American Academy of Pediatrics

I refused Hep shot in the hospital. DS started his first shot at his 2 mo. visit. I do 1 shot at a time.

We thought that we would delay hepB, and thank GOD we didn't. DH is an EMT for the city and was exposed to someone with HepB about a month ago and I would have had to take DS away for 4 weeks if he hadn't been vaccinated. And obviously, my husband does not share fluids with my child, but it would be as a precaution.
DH was vomitted on by a HepB patient, that could happen to someone on the subway if you think about it.
I think we will be following the schedule because of our circumstances.

At 2 months the schedule says its 5 vaccine and one oral one.
They are:
HepB DTap Hib PCV IPV
My son is 11 months and he has had no vaccinations to date. I'm not planning on vaccinating him ever. I have 2 daughters that are vaccinated, and I definitely see a difference between them. FM me if you want more info on this, I don't want to start a huge debate.
IF I was going to do them I would wait until he was 2. If I were going to delay a few of those at the 2 month visit, it would be the HepB, DTaP, and IPV.
As for the "what if something happens", there are germs out there that are much scarier than the ones we vaccinate for.
Not wanting to start a debate at all- but what will you do when it is time for school?

I think they get caught up by then. If not, I think it's a problem, unless you have a "religious" reason for them not being vaccinated.

I'm not going to vaccinate any of them.
There are exemptions that you can apply for with the state and once you get them your children can attend school/daycare.

My DD has had up to 3 shots at a given visit plus and oral vaccine. I think it depends on the doctor. She went to her 7 month checkup last week and her next will be her 9 month checkup and they said no shots. IMO it is very scary about shots may being linked to autism but you know what you wouldn't want to see your child with any disease like mumps, rubella or any of them for that matter. They made these vaccines for a reason.

every office is different, my Dr only gives 2 shots per visit which is what me and my DH wanted, however 2 other peds office in my area give 5 vaccinations in 3 shots at each well baby visit- personally we felt it would be too many shots for his little body, plus when you give so many, its very difficult to tell which one ur baby has a problem with if they have a reaction we also refused the Heb B and will be seperating the MMR shots when he gets older- whether or not ur doctor agrees is not an issue b/c you as a parent have a right to ask for the vaccinations however you want to do them my dr. didnt agree with us not giving the Heb B but said it was mine and my DH choice to do it or not

Why?
Because I don't think the risk of my child having a complication of certain diseases is greater than the risk of my child having a serious vaccine reaction. I also don't want to inject the ingredients found in vaccines into my child's body (and I'm not just talking about thimerisol). I'm comfortable with my decision.
How do you get a waiver from the state then if it's not due to a religious reason?
No offense, but I really hope that not many parents share the same view as you, as we don't need these diseases to pop back up because no one is immunizing their children for fear of Autism (which hasn't been proven) etc.

Several states have three different types of exemptions, medical, philosophical, and religious.
And I'm not against vaccinating my own children for fear of autism. That is not the only reason a parent would decidnot to vaccinate. I don't think you would see a sudden increase in all of the diseases we vaccinate for anyway.

I'm not going to debate this topic any further than this:
What YOU think about an increase in diseases such as the ones vaccinated for is incorrect. There have been pockets of outbreaks, for example, measles resurfaced in the late 80's, and there was an outbreak of mumps in 2006 (?). All due to the fact that people weren't vaccinated properly.
I agree- your child, your choice. But in all your research, you MUST have found evidance of how dangerous it is to have the mindset against ANY vaccinating.
