Riding a 2-wheeler?
At what age was your child able to ride a 2-wheeler?
And is there something in particular that you did to help them learn that you felt help?
Emily is dying to ride, and I am anxious for her to be able to ride along with me. Before my pregnancy I was doing quite a bit or riding, 100 miles + a month. I would love to take family rides together, but the training wheels really slow us down.
We've tried a few times over the past few weeks and she just hasn't gotten the hang of it, so I am open to tips and suggestions!

Re: Riding a 2-wheeler?
My DS started at 5
One thing my DH did was to only remove one training wheel at first...It seemed like we blinked and then he just "got" it

Re: Riding a 2-wheeler?
I haven't taken the training wheels off of Katherine's yet, but plan to if I ever get a free minute! However, a friend of mine told me to remove the pedals...that way they learn to balance and glide first without worrying about anything else. Another mom from camp this summer had a wooden "glider" bike (no pedals at all) for her DD but said taking the pedals off would be just as helpful as a first step in learning to ride...
HTH!

Re: Riding a 2-wheeler?
Mine started at 4.. both now ride without a problem and my almost 3 YO is starting to practice on her own.
take your child's bike (the smaller the better) and turn it into a balance bike..
lower the seat all the way to the bottom, remove the training wheels and the pedals and have him/her get his/her balance down first..
before you know it, they will get it!

Re: Riding a 2-wheeler?
Thanks for the tips guys. I have heard of that before --- turning the bike into a balance bike. So that is what we will have to do. I was trying to avoid taking the pedals off, but that seems to be the next step. We already lowered the seat. So I have a feeling I know what we'll be doing this weekend!

Re: Riding a 2-wheeler?
My son learned a few months before he turned 5. I totally agree with the smaller the better!! I remember falling alot when I learned and I was on a huge bike. I feel when DS learned on a small bike he didn't have too far to fall and wasn't afraid of it. He got it very quickly with very little falling.

Re: Riding a 2-wheeler?
Roman just threw out his training wheels a few weeks ago (he's 5). DH kept running along side of him but he kept leaning into DH so he finally just gave him a shove and off he went. He fell A LOT! Within a few days he was riding no problem.
Good Luck!
