Hi Ladies, DH is having surgery to correct a deviated septum as well as a chronic nasal condition. Has anyone or their DH had similar surgery and if so was the recovery terrible and when did you feel semi human again?. His surgery is expected to be about 3 hours

Re: Nasal Surgery

I had this in 09 and I'll be going back for revision surgery in early February. (deviated septum, nasal polyps, sinus reduction)

I took a week off of work - Surgery on Friday and I was off the next Mon-Fri. In reality I could have went back that Wednesday; but I work at a desk job without any lifting.

Bending over, lifting and laying down flat was painful for 2 weeks. I didn't think it was that bad; I only took 1 dose of prescription pain meds. Rest of the time I took extra strength tylenols.

I actually thought the most painful part was them removing the scabs a few days after surgery at the followup appts. I didnt even think the packing removal hurt as much as the scab removal. I shudder thinking about it.

Re: Nasal Surgery

My stepdad had it a few years ago. I took him to the hospital, waited around, and then took him home. He said the recovery was tough for a whole week after. He also ended up being allergic to the Percocets that they gave him for the pain. Not only did he have to recover from his surgery but he said his skin itched and burned so bad from the meds that he wanted to kill himself. He called the dr because he didn't realize he was having an allergic reaction and the dr told him that a lot of people end up having that reaction to the Percocets.

He said even after the tough recovery for the week after the surgery he would have def done it again because he was able to breathe SO much better. My sister and I also have the same problem where we can only breathe out of one nostril and he suggested that we get it done, that it makes you feel so much better. I'm too much of a chicken.

It is 150% worth it, even with the pain. At least you know the pain from the surgery is the last bit of pain your will have for a while; instead of the constant pain that is sure to come if you don't have it.

Re: Nasal Surgery

I just did the turbinate reduction and it wasn't bad at all. I got it done on a Friday afternoon and had a bit of a headache for the rest of the evening. I had very little bleeding and lots of gross scabbing. I want to say I went back to have the scabs removed.

I haven't had any snoring since I had the procedure which DH loves! Chat Icon Chat Icon
