Joining you here.....and a question
Hi ladies, guess it's time to introduce myself here. Got my BFP on Black Friday and had my first OB appt last Monday. Saw a heartbeat and got my sono printout. Went back again this Tuesday and there was no heartbeat. They took more blood and I heard back today. No heartbeat, no more growth, not a viable pregnancy. Now I know first hand the heartbreak that each of you have experienced, and let me just say, I would never wish this on anyone.
I'm scheduled for pre-surgical testing on 12/21 and then a D&C on 12/23. And to think, we were going to tell our families on Christmas day....now instead I'll be recovering.
So I guess I should start prepping for next week. Those of you that have had a D&C, what should I expect?

Re: Joining you here.....and a question
Its nothing really, its a very simple procedure... it will probably take less than a half hour from the time you go in to when you wake up... thats how it was forme. I went under and then i was waking up! Make sure you have someone with you, you probably shouldnt drive yourself home.

First I am sorry for your loss. Second the D&C is very simple but mentally it takes a lot out of you. I think the procedure took all of 30 mins. My DH was suprised at how quickly it was done.

Re: Joining you here.....and a question
So sorry and not that anytime is a good time for a mc but around the Holiday's is really tough and Im sending lots of to you and your DH. My experience was great (besides the loss) I was in hospital START-FINISH less then 4hrs. The prep and waiting was the worst part. Like OP said your put to sleep and the next thing you know your awake and a lil groggy. I was totally fine no pain nothing. Just bleeding for about a week. I went on with my day and so on .. emotionally it was terrible and time will heal that. You will be ok and the D&C was NOT what I thought it was going to be. There is a lot of support in this room and hope you take advantage of it.. I did.

Re: Joining you here.....and a question
As I said on the TTC board, I am so, so sorry. I completely understand how you feel. We had our first sono the week before Thanksgiving and we were planning to tell our families then, only to find out that the baby stopped growing. I had the D&C scheduled for the Monday after Thanksgiving. It has been a really tough few weeks for us. The D&C wasn't bad, but it is very emotionally draining. It took me two full days to recover enough to go back to work, and a full week after to feel normal again. I didn't have much bleeding or cramping at all when it was done. The hardest part right now is waiting for my period to come back so that we can try again. I wish you a quick recovery and will keep you in my thoughts.

Re: Joining you here.....and a question
Ugh I hate to see new people on here. I am SO sorry for your loss...sending many I had my 1st m/c in Sept...for me we never even heard a heartbeat. I had the chills just reading your post. I feel for me had we heard a heartbeat and then lost the baby that would have been so much more painful so I am sending you lots of hugs! I had a D&C and it was a very simple procedure as others have said. Nothing you have to do to prepare - except not eat for however long they tell you - you'll get all that info at the pre-op. I didn't bleed until 1 week later. Bled on and off for about a week. I had very mild cramping...nothing too bad at all but from what I understand everyone is different. I felt totally fine after - there was no recovery period for me at all. I was just tired the day of and slept a lot. But next day I felt back to normal. Your heart will take some time to heal...hang in there! We are all here for you!
ETA: I got my period exactly 5 weeks after D&C.

Re: Joining you here.....and a question
I am sorry for your loss. Everyone here is so kind and helpful.
My first miscarriage I had a d&c. I woke up and felt crampy. I bled for about a week. The cramping was not so bad and lasted only the day of the d&c. I got my period 32 days after the d&c.

Re: Joining you here.....and a question
Thanks all. DH will be going with me, so he'll be able to drive me home. I'm just so confused about the whole thing right now, and it being two days before Christmas (and me hosting Christmas) isn't helping.

Re: Joining you here.....and a question
So sorry for your loss! As others mentioned, the procedure isn't bad at all, it's the emotional part that's harder. I would suggest bringing your own pad b/c they give you the ridiculous hospital pads when you leave. Sounds insignificant but if one little thing can make you a bit more comfortable it's worth mentioning. Good luck!

Re: Joining you here.....and a question
So sorry for your loss. I just had a D&C 2 weeks ago. I actually felt great physically immediately after I woke up up from the surgery. I rested that entire day- only bc I felt that I should- but otherwise felt fine. I bled for a week following the procedure and I am now waiting to get through one cycle so that we can try again.
The emotional part was hardest for me during the days leading up to the surgery. The procedure actually gave me closure and almost made me feel better- I hated feeling pregnant but not actually being pregnant. Being optimistic about getting pregnant again has helped us a lot. Stay strong- you will get through this!

Re: Joining you here.....and a question
I'm so sorry
I had a missed mc in October and had a D&C, the procedure itself is pretty quick and "easy" as I know most drs do it in the office, but I had mine done at the hospital where my OB and my cardiologist are affiliated bc of my heart issues. I didn't have a pre surgical testing . The D&C was at 7am they told me to go in 2 hours early , they asked me few questions, did a the blood test to determine my blood type and then I just waited, that was the most nerve wrecking part. Finally I went in, one sec I was talking to the OB and next minute I was waking up. No pain or anything then or following hours and days. Light bleeding for about 2 weeks. I was walking around and went shopping with DH and DD the day after my D&C (I couldn't stay home, I needed to get out) I just took it easy for about 2 weeks . It's the emotional pain that's the hardest part.
