Your DC's aba programs...

We are currently re-doing DC's aba program list and focusing more on one step commands. I'm trying to get some more ideas for the list. Please share your childs programs. TIA Chat Icon

Re: Your DC's aba programs...

I have 2 children doing ABA, 3 and 7. Not sure which age level you want to hear. (My 3 year old is very advanced, learns a program within the day and it's done- never regresses. He really only needs pictures if he gets frustrated or forgets what he's saying. My 7 year old is very imparred learning, he doesn't speak, can't really communicate well so his programs are very simple- example- request with 2 distractors- any more and he's lost.

Re: Your DC's aba programs...

How old is the child?
DD (during pre-school) used basic one step commands like sit, walk, wait, stop, quiet in addition to PECS. Then it was simple 2 part commands like a First-Then chart (i.e., First dinner, then cookies).

Re: Your DC's aba programs...

One of the most important commands is "come here" in my opinion because it can be used in times of urgency. If a child can stop what he/she is engaged in and come to the person calling, that's a good one.

Of course, 'sit down"

Then there is "give me" ....first it would be something in close proximity, and then something across a room and then in other rooms.

"throw this out" (garbage)

"clean up"

"put in"

"put on"

"turn off"

"turn page"

"wait"

A lot of one step directions go hand in hand with attending skills, or tacting. (asking them to label things "where is?" etc)

There are also concept commands

"hug me"
"kiss me"
"clap hands"
"throw, kick ball"

Anyway there are a lot. lol ABA sort of classifies them into different sections "concept commands" "attending skills" "self help skills"
