Has anyone made refried beans?

I was never a fan and then recently I had some out and they were buttery and DELICIOUS!

I'm not doing anything tonight so I've decided to make a nice dinner for myself and I'm kinda craving Mexican food. That being said, I thought I'd try to make refried beans but I don't know anything about making them.

So does anyone out there have a fairly easy recipe they could share with this newbie?

Thanks! Chat Icon

If you have pinto beans on hand, check the back of the can for a recipe. I think that's what I've followed in the past.

I'm not a big fan of the thought of refried beans.

I just take some canned black beans and warm them with chicken stock and cumin and chili powder. When they are warm, I drain (and save) most of the liquid and just smoosh them until they are the right texture.

Re: Has anyone made refried beans?

Very.simple....drain a can of black or pinto beans, saving the liquid. Rinse beans, and put in the magic bullet or blender with about half of the liquid from the beans (you may need more so they will blend). Black beans will still be a little chunky, that's okay. Put a little oil in bottom of frying pan, add beans and some salsa to desired consistency, cook at medium stirring frequently for about 7-10 minutes and done! I sometimes add a little taco seasoning with canned tomato sauce for some added flavor, but I prefer homemade salsa over that.
