Evaluation/CPSE meeting, what to expect?
About a month ago we received anletter requesting DS to be evaluated. We signed it but havent heard anything back, do they just test him in school without telling us or will we be notified?
Also his teacher told us that we can request a parent advocate to sit through our meeting. Im not sure what she meant, does anyone know?

Re: Evaluation/CPSE meeting, what to expect?
Was the letter you recevied a consent to evaluate? If so and you signed it and sent it back, the evaluators will be notifed and will evaluate Your DS. After they finish evaluating, the write up the results and you will receive copies of each one. A meeting will be scheduled by the SD and you will receive a letter notifying you of the date, time and location. The CSPE will comprised of the chirperson of the commettiee (SD employee), county representivie, parent member if this is an initial referal (a parent of a student in the district who recevies special services, has an IEP....), 1 or 2 of the evaluators, the parents/guardians and anyone else they bring to the meeting. If your DS is in a special ed pre-k his teacher would be invited to the meeting.
If your DS is in a regular Ed preschool or daycare, the evaluators will call you to set up the evaluations, they can be done at school or home. If you want them done at school/daycare, you will need to provide the evaluators or evaluating agency with the name, number and contact person of the school/daycare so that they can set up the evals with them. If your DS is already enrolled in a special Ed preschool, the staff there will go ahead and evaluate as soon as they received a copy of the consent form you signed from the district.
