when did you start to look at schools - before or after the CPSE meeting?
The evals are done but we haven't gotten them yet. We just finished the IFSP meeting and the coordinator gave us a list of schools.
When did you start looking? I haven't scheduled the CPSE meeting yet.
i don't know if I should be looking at a CPSE program or an integrated program. Should I look at both or just wait for the meeting?
DS is speech and language impaired with sensory issues. I'm in Mineola. These are the schools on our list"

Did the EI coordinator feel you would get a placement in a program offered to you? If so, then I'd look now, some might not even have openings anymore for Sept. and can tell you now.
We were told we lwouldnt get a program...Noah has speech delays, Sensory issues and emotional issues ...and so I didnt really look and now he WAS offered something, I'm trying to look and do it quickly b/c the spots are really filling up fast.

Re: when did you start to look at schools - before or after the CPSE meeting?
My DS is already in a preschool program. I am hoping he will stay where he is, but I may look at other schools. If I do, I am not waiting for the meeting. When I asked the person at the initial interview, I got the "let's not get ahead of ourselves..." sort of answer. When I ask our special ed teacher, she says absolutely look on your own, don't wait.
I wouldn't wait. I think, like Donna said, that many of the schools may already have waiting lists.

are you looking for Sept 10?
you can tour as many schools as you want. they will not screen your child until your CPSE meeting and IEP is written up.
also are you looking for full day or half day?
a few of those schools you mentioned i know do not have openings for full day for sept 10 and one of them has a horrible language program.
FM me if you want more info.

DS is in a 1/2 day program now. He started at 2. We're "assuming" that he'll get a program for next year. He has speech delays, sensory issues and for a while they thought about a PDD NOS diagnosis. I'd like to know what they're thinking but I think you're right - I won't wait.
I'm getting nervous that so many of you are saying the spots are filling up already! I thought I was ahead of the game!!!!

ITA.
We looked at schools before our CPSE meeting but no screening were scheduled/done until the packet from our district was received by the schools.

Re: when did you start to look at schools - before or after the CPSE meeting?
We looked a a bunch of schools before our meeting and I had one picked out when we went into our meeting and the district called the school and confirmed our enrollment while we were there. Our DD did not have to do any screenings for any of the schools we looked at.

Re: when did you start to look at schools - before or after the CPSE meeting?
I started super early (Feb/March) and we had looked at a few schools before even having the cpse evals. My team leader and EI coordinator suggested we have the evals done by the school that was my top pick. So this is what we did. When we sat for the cpse meeting (end of April), it went really smooth because the woman representing the school was able to confirm that we were accepted into the program right there.
I wouldn't wait any longer. Depending on the program your child is approved for, spots may be limited. Generally, the more restrictive the setting the more limited the space.
