this bothers me so much when people do that!!
I read 2 ads on Craigslist today of people getting rid of pets because they are going to have a baby.,,,,and it SUCKS!!!

My dog is my "first baby" - she was there for me through the ups and downs of fertility issues and a miscarriage and then morning sickness and fatigue with my current pregnancy. She is great with kids so I am not even worried about it, but after all she has done for me the last think I could ever think about is not having her around.
I actually can't wait for her to be a big sister.
I know people who have given up their dogs when kids came along and really it was because they wanted a baby all along, and the dog was the placeholder. I don't get it at all. I got my dog because I wanted a dog, and she is a part of the family.

This is one of the most common reasons that owners dump their dogs off at kill shelters. I don't know what's worse, that they give up their first "baby" to a kill shelter, or that they don't look back. My mother would always say to those people, "That dog would jump in front of a train for you." She was right, dogs are so loyal. It's absolutely disgusting and I do believe that if people were given the option to dump their children at a shelter, they'd think about doing that too!

I'm sorry but if you feel you can't handle both- then don't EVER get a pet if you even remotely plan to have kids.
This angers me soooo much!
I'm with you!!! I can't stand it!!Otis is a part of our family and has been long before our daughter came into the world!!
Few tips that helped me when I was pregnant and worried about how Otis was going to handle it!!
When I came home from the hospital first thing I did was went right to him and gave him hugs and kisses and then slowly put the baby down in the infant carrier and let him smell her feet. From that moment on he didn't leave her side!! I also let him smell everything if we were taking something out before we washed it we let him smell it!!

no doubt. the fact that i know these jerks personally, as well as the poor dog, makes me crazy.
the fact that they are having a baby makes me  they can barely handle themselves.

Oh, they'll have a 2nd child.. and just get rid of the 1st if it's too hard to handle 2.

thats awful...im pregnant myself and have a 110lb labrador who thinks hes a lap dog...i could never imagine giving him up...me and my husband keep joking that the dog is gonna have to share my lap...im so excited for my dog to have a little brother or sister to play with...it may be some work in the begining but it will be worth it.
Same here...I can't wait to see my son and lab playing together - they will be best friends!

I just wanted to tell you both that our lab and my daughter are best buds! Although, it took a little getting used to in the beginning, they were fast friends and I can only imagine them getting closer as time goes on!
