Re: hysteroscopy without anesthesia??
When they did a hysterscopy on me, it was just to check things out and I did not have to have anything removed. I was told to take 4 advil beforehand...

ok thanks. When I hear that people were given general anesthesia I'm thinking my doctor's office is insane! I just want this to be over. The thought of having a chunk taken out of me as I'm counting the ceiling tiles
I haven't had anything removed during a hysteroscopy but I did have it done twice just to look....
One reason why other offices may put you to sleep for it is the size of the scope. At my RE, it was REALLY thin and more modern. It also only took like 60 seconds...
.. I can't speak from experience from having anything removed.. but at least just the looking part isn't too bad!! Hopefully the doctor can just do it really quick!
Good luck!!!!

Re: hysteroscopy without anesthesia??
I had an office diagnostic one with no anesthesia, no reason for it. I also had one in the hospital to have a polyp removed and had anethesia.

Re: hysteroscopy without anesthesia??***UPDATE***
From my experience with every test, biopsy, heath issue I have ..... ALWAYS GET SEDATED. There is no reason to have pain, even if it's just for a "few minutes". TAKE THE DRUGS.
No one has to be a hero.
Don't feel bad you didn't go through with it. Everyone can handle what they can handle. Better off taking a nice nap while they do it then be traumatized.

I had this done and it was one of the most painful experiences of my life. I took a prescription pain killer and xanax. Still hurt like hell and I almost fainted 3 times. You'll be much happier sedated. Hope everything turns out ok

Re: hysteroscopy without anesthesia??***UPDATE***
Ive had a few endometrial biopsies (also goes thru the cervix) which i was never offered sedation for. Yes i screamed too. The first one i had i was like 20 years old and the stupid b!tch doctor didn't even tell me what she was doing. Im sure they heard me in the waiting room. I felt like she was using a hot butter knife!!!! So don't beat yourself up. As a pp said why be in pain?

Re: hysteroscopy without anesthesia??***UPDATE***
ive never had anything removed during a hysteroscopy but the one i had was so painless i wouldve been pissed if they sedated me for it. it literally felt like a period cramp, took 60 seconds max, and it was over. i got to watch it on the screen too (kinda gross but interesting). but it def depends on the size of the scope.

Oh my goodness! I had a cervical polyp removed during a regular exam. I don't know if she put anythinf topical on it before she did it, but it was a quick pinch & wasn't too bad.
I had a hysterscopy, with a D & C biopsy and that was at the hospital, under sedation. When I freaked out about needing anesthisa, the Dr. told me if they didn't, the could dialate properly.
