Saying weirdo things going into/coming out of anesthesia?
I have never been put under.....so I'm kinda worried...
...and one of my irrational fears is saying something as I'm being put out or coming awake....something like, "Hey doc, you're a hottie" or telling a nurse that I can see her nose hairs or something worse.
Have you experienced this? like, were you told after that you said weird or inappropriate things?

I've been under 3 times - never said anything weird that I've been told.
I have a feeling though if you do say something, they probably wouldn't tell you to your face that you did.

Yeah. I had my wisdom teeth pulled and I came out of it hysterical crying, so depressed, like I was coming down off a drug high or something. It was awful.
He was still in my mouth when I woke up so I was crying/yelling at the oral surgeon.
It was a shitt-show.

This is so funny! I actually was recently under for an endoscopy and when I came to I told my MIL this funny, but possibly inappropriate story! I knew what I was saying, but it was like I couldn't control it!

Re: Saying weirdo things going into/coming out of anesthesia?
I woke up crying from oral surgery, not from pain though. Weird, but they all assured me it was no big deal, that it happened to a lot of people, the crying that is. My grandmother just had hip surgery & the anesthesia made her throw up, and she kept saying "Judge Judy told me to throw up"!! The docs all thought it was funny & said that it happens. They didn't seem all that phased by it. I'm sure they've heard it all before.

I had surgery on my ovary in 2002... It was laproscopic (sp?) and they went in with probes via my belly button, two by my hair line, and one through the *cough* vajayjay
When I was waking up, I remember seeing a male nurse by my bed - I grabbed him, looked him straight in the eye and said quite loudly... My V@GINA HURTS!! He looked at me with this Did You Just Say That / I Really Can't Help You look LOL He was nice though...
It's more like you say what you want and don't really care about reactions LOL
Good luck!

Re: Saying weirdo things going into/coming out of anesthesia?
My DH had to have anesthesia a few years ago (before we were married). In the recovery room, he would only talk to me. He completely ignored his parents. He said some silly things, but they were totally in-line with his normal goofy self.

I'm so sorry - but I am crying! I am laughing so hard at this!
I also woke from oral surgery hysterically crying...but then started laughing. I then told my mom to go and tell the dentist that he did a great job and wouldn't stop telling her until she went to tell him....she had to interrupt another surgery!
I'm sorry BB - I'm still laughing!

Re: Saying weirdo things going into/coming out of anesthesia?
It's like just being drunk or something... like you would just say whatever ... no filter. Some say nothing at all.
Of the 3 times I've been under... I never said anything bad. But the 2nd time i was high as a kite and was going on and on about how I don't care for doctors too much to the nurses and dr. haha. They got a kick out of it though... i wasn't angry or anything... just high and happy and letting my feelings out. My DH said they were coming out of the room laughing.
The other times i didn't say anything in the room. I was told I wake up nicely to the anesthesia.
The 3rd time I did wake up with the shivers though.

Re: Saying weirdo things going into/coming out of anesthesia?
When I woke up from getting my wisdow teeth pulled. . . I told the whole room how the twilight they used was exactly like being on drugs and I was like "Holy Sh!t I feel like I am flucking tripping my balls off" which is not how I EVER talk much less to medical professionals.
Then, I cried the whole way home - ugh, I have never been so depressed!

Re: Saying weirdo things going into/coming out of anesthesia?
When I had a procedure over the summer, I woke up and said to the Doctor, "Josie, You've changed!" (Josie is my 1 year old DD)

Re: Saying weirdo things going into/coming out of anesthesia?
When I was put out for my surgery last year I don't remember much. I remember saying one thing and that was it- then I was being woken up. I think the drugs cause a bit of amnesia so for all I know I could have been reciting poetry or hitting on the Dr but I didn't remember anything past this one point.
Maybe that's a good thing.
Coming out of it I was fine- I felt very lucid and wasn't saying anything strange- which suprised me. I thought for sure I'd have a hard time coming out of it.

Re: Saying weirdo things going into/coming out of anesthesia?
When I woke up after having my wisdom teeth pulled I was convinced that the oral surgeon removed my tongue. I kept pointing at my mouth and trying to speak but I had so much gauze in there that I couldn't really talk.
So I asked my mom for a pen and paper and wrote "is my tongue still in there?" and then pointed to my mouth. She thought that was hysterical and she tells everyone about it.

That's hilarious! I have no idea what kind of drugs they give you, but it seems like everyone wakes up and says funny stuff after having their wisdom teeth pulled.

As a student nurse doing my OR/Recovery room rotation, I don't recall anyone ever saying anything as they awoke from anesthesia. Mary

I was told that I commented to the nurse about how I understood why people commit heinous crimes for drugs and pills... that's how amazing I felt.

This is actually quite scary to me! This is exactly why I opted to stay awake when having a wisdom tooth pulled. I know it's just twilight and not the same anasthesia you get when having surgery- but I have to say- I woke up from regular surgery with real anasthesia and it was a breeze. I was nothing like this. This stuff is just like hallucinagenic or something. Like a bad trip! Would freak me out!

Re: Saying weirdo things going into/coming out of anesthesia?
When I had laproscopic surgery on my "area" back in '08, I remember having hallucinations either while I was under or just coming out of it that my doctor and the nurses were singing the Pussycat Dolls song "Don't Cha" in the OR while dancing around and using the instruments and lights like it was a concert . To this day, I still think they were rocking out in there.
