South Beach Phase 1

What are/were your go tos?

I do like my omelet in the morning. I like walnuts and string cheese to snack. I really liked the crunch of roasted chick peas (how many chick peas can I have a day?)

I've been trying to make big salads and tonight I had a bunless burger. (to be honest, I missed the ketchup most! and bread and butter pickle)

my big problem is that I don't like fish or poultry

I'm thinking I should just do the same things every meal for the two weeks, just to get through it.

I have done SB before I I loved how it broke my carb addiction...hoping for similar results!

yea not loving fish or poultry would be tough on south beach. what about for dinner making different varieties of fritattas. you could do roasted veggies and low fat feta, or turkey sausage crumbles and low fat mozz, or mushrooms, onions and goat cheese....or any variation you like.

Re: South Beach Phase 1

Spaghetti squash with meat sauce
taco salads
lettuce wrapped tacos
broccoli & cheese soup
Roasted asparagus with parmesan cheese
mozzarella, tomato, basil salad
veggie lasagna (using eggplant or zucchini in place of pasta)

Making this list and remembering all of those dishes may kick start me to do SB again!

ETA: I though pickles were allowed on SB.

Thanks for the great suggestions! A few extra dishes will certainly help. I know once I get through the first week it I'll get better.

Dill pickles are ok...bread and butter are not. Since I don't like mayo, I really rely on b&b pickles.

I now realize how much I snack on the kids food! I spit a Cheerios out today and had to move a bowl of pretzels away. I guess those small calories pile up!

Oh and I miss sugar in my coffee...Splenda sucks.

You and I are very much alike in our tastes! I hate mayo too which actually sometimes makes dieting easier. Mayo is so full of fat. And splendaChat Icon

My worst habit is finishing what my kids don't eat.

Re: South Beach Phase 1

I'm following the primal blueprint.
For breakfast I always have 2 eggs (fried if i'm home, hardboiled if i'm on the go) and usually a protein shake. I use coconut milk, ice, scoop of whey protein, spoon of cacao powder, heaping spoon of almond butter, and banana. Mix in blender and its delicious. (I don't know if bananas are allowed on SB but if not just leave it out!)
I then snack on nuts and berries (are berries allowed in phase 1?)
Lunch is heaping plate of veggies and chunk of meat. Same with dinner.
i've been following this 80% since January and 95% for the last month. I was skinny before but I have no fat at all now. even dropped a bra size Chat Icon . i have no processed foods, grains or refined sugar. I was the biggest junk food addict before and now those things disgust me. I can give you a lot of ideas if you need because I think there are a lot of similarities between the diets.

Thanks Julz...I wish I could get down to no fat, but that's just not my MO. I'm an enjoyer of food! LOL

No berries/fruit allowed the first 2 weeks...then I can slowly add one thing a day.

I'm one week in and 9 pounds down! The first few days I would have said my first add in would have been bread, but now I have broken the carb addiction...I really just want an apple!!!

I've been really good...we had donuts melt and I had them all over my hands trying to give one to the kids...I washed it off...as much as I wanted just a lick...I have 99% stuck to the plan (I think I eat a few too many onions than the plan allows) I have a wedding tonight and might have a few sips of red wine. But probably just seltzer, which I've become obsessed with.

I do think I had sugar withdrawals. I was SO TIRED. I fell asleep all the time. and was a little cranky (Chat Icon probably didn't help )

omelet with onions, spinach, tomatoes and cheese - every morning - since I don't mind this

and then vegetables. salad, broccoli, mock mashed potatoes with cauliflower, zucchini,

when I wanted a crunch - roasted chick peas

string cheese

I did have a bunless burger, deli turkey, and parmesan crusted chicken for proteins (besides the egg)

I probably cooked with too much olive oil, but the scale didn't mind.

I had two drinks last night, good dinner, but too much cheese at cocktail - and gained a pound :( I'm hoping to get through today - I'll be at the hospital all day with DS. I know I can find things at the cafeteria, but at the children's hospital they are constantly bringing around snacks for them.

Thanks for all of the great tips!

I hope everything is ok with DS. Must be very hard for the whole family!
