Help with a VERY unhappy cat
This story is long, but here it goes. My husband, baby, dog, and I moved in with my parents temporarily about a month ago. We will be here for another month, but have a rental lined up for after that. My parents have had a cat (and a dog) they rescued, she's about 7/8. She has always, always, been "special" strongly dislikes most people except my mom and sister and in general is pretty mean/anxious. She has always disliked my dad, my brother, and myself. While she has always been special she's fine, she always kept to herself and tolerated my parents dog. She isn't going to come hang out, but she isn't hissing or clawing at my parents dog or my mom. However, since we've moved in she's been really, really, really upset. She hates my dog, HATES! She has been pooping every where and peeing all over the place. My mom took her to the vet two weeks ago and she did have a UTI so she got that all cleared up and the vet thought the peeing/pooping could be related to the UTI since her urine was stinky. Unfortunately, it's pretty obvious that it's also because she's unhappy with the situation. We need help, my mom is obviously sick of cleaning up, my dad has had enough (he doesn't even like cats to begin with), and I just feel AWFUL. Besides for us moving out early which we really can't do, I'm at a total loss.
So far we have tried, extra special treats for her, my mom has been spending a ton of extra time with her playing and cuddling, and changing her cat litter twice a day. We keep my dog out of her side of the house. What else can we try?
We have one more month here and we'd like to make it as easy as possible for everyone involved. My dad already wants her gone, but thankfully he's seriously outnumbered and would never do anything without my mom's approval. I don't want this poor anxious cat to be any more miserable than she already is!!
Thanks for reading and in advance for any help you may have.

Re: Help with a VERY unhappy cat
Is there a room you could put her in with her litter box toys and such. When my girl cat is stressed we put her in our room by herself all day and come home to a very happy cat who sometimes doesn't want to come out. Some cats are antisocial or if they aren't feeling good in terms of the uti she may just need some alone time for awhile.

Help with a VERY unhappy cat
Thanks for the tip! I'll try it out, we didn't want to make her feel like she was being punished in one room, but maybe she just needs some more quiet time.

Re: Help with a VERY unhappy cat
I agree about trying to give her some space in a separate room where she feels comfortable. My sis and her dog lived with us for a while and Lenny HATED my sisters dog and made it very clear. He would swat at her, growl, hiss and pee on things. I would a lot of the times put Lenny is my room and close the door, open the window and put his kitty condo next to it so he was content. Also, I started using this spray called Feliway that helps with his anxiety. You can find it on Amazon, they have it in plug in diffusers as well. It releases natural pheromones that are supposed to be soothing. I can't say for certain if it has been this spray but Lenny has settled down a lot so it's worth a shot!
