5K training program rave!!! (and a brag)

I've been working on becoming a runner. I started a C25K program last summer. When I started, I could barely fun 60 seconds straight. Literally. I'm not athletic at all. I quit after about 3 weeks because I was lazy. Then I started it up again....and lasted almost 5 weeks before I hurt my foot and had to stop. This summer, I started it up again....and I am LOVING it!!! I'm mostly done with week 7 now, and tonight, for the first time EVER in my life....I ran 2 straight miles!!!!!Chat Icon
I really never thought I would be able to do it. It's still hard work.....but I'm so proud of myself for sticking with it this time...and it IS getting easier!

I am on week 4 and very out of shape. I also went back to work this week so I am exhausted from that. I glad it works because I don't want to give up but the last two times I went and did it I couldn't make it through.

Good for you! The program really does work! I could barely run a minute and now I am at about the same place as you.

It really does become addictive like they say. You just want to go further and further. Just ran my first race and signed up for the next step!

Keep up the good work!

Stick with it. Repeat it if you need to, it really does work. YOU CAN DO IT

That's so great. You should be really proud. Running is hard!!!

I was really happy to hear your post. I am in the middle of couch to 5K myself. I just finished the second run of week 5 the other day, and am going for the 20 minute run tomorrow. (I've actually been at it for 7 weeks, but I repeated both weeks 1 & 2 to try to build my stamina!) I have my doubts about doing 20 mins of straight running, so to hear that you are on week 7 gives me hope and motivates me to keep going!

The 20 minute run scared me too!! The first time I tried it, I made it 17 1/2 minutes and I had to stop....but I made sure to get in 2 1/2 minutes after a short break so I had 20 full minutes of running. Being able to do that really helped me!
So much of this is in my mind. Last night, when I was running, I kept telling myself that I could do it...that I shouldn't give up....reminding myself how good it would feel to say I did it. And it REALLY helped!
Good luck!!Chat Icon

I went back to work this week also....and I'm exhausted. But I was determined to keep on track and to run every other day. Because when I miss, and go two days without it, I don't do as well and it makes it more difficult.

That's great!! I like that you keep trying and trying, because that's really the point, isn't it?

I've taken the lessons from C25K and applied them to everything, getting healthy. Work your way into it, do a little more each time, and not only will you succeed but you'll get used to it as you go. So when you get to your goal, it's like second nature.

You should be very proud of yourself. Chat Icon

Awesome!! I really want to do this. How did you time yourself so you knew when to walk, run etc?
