BTDT Moms - 1st Communion Questions

DD is making her communion this year and I want to start booking some of the vendors before they fill up.

Did you get anything special for your child, or did only the godparents get them something?

Pro photos - especially if you took them outdoors - did you do them before or after the communion day? I'm a little worried about ripping the dress or staining it ahead of time.

What did you give out as favors? Trying to come up with non-food things since my ds has multiple food allergies. We did candles at both kids christening.

I didn't take pro pictures but I did help out one of my dd's friends & took pictures for her before the day. Mainly because I had something going on the day of the communion. We did when she had her hair trial. She called me afterwards to tell me that having seen the photos a few weeks before the communion made her so much more relaxed about photos. She only had to focus on getting some family shots because she was confident that she had some good ones.

She wasn't allowed to go in the grass & most of the photos were indoors. She had a huge mirror that worked really well in photos.

The godfather got them a crosses & the godmother paid for dd to get her ears pierced & for the earrings.

For favors, I went with cookies (made by a friend). Once they announced the date, a lot of places filled up so if you plan on having it around town, definitely book that first.

Our church hired a photographer to do pro photos during the communion with a package of an individual and group photo for $25; the photographer had a website where you could order more photos al la cart; but they were $$$.

I did photos at home BEFORE the communion; it was hot and the boys wore robes so i didnt want ot torture DS in the heat; also all of my family met at the house before. We did take photos with cake and the party but DS was busy playing with his cousins and wasnt looking his best by that point. Oh well, i couldnt expect much; he's 7 and just wants to play.

As for vendors? we just had a party at our home and i ordered a cake. I did the cooking in the days prior and just a last few minute things the morning of- it wasnt in our budget to go overboard on a huge party. We had about 20 people - all family, and it was perfect!

For favors, I bought ceramic crosses and wrote DS's name and date on them and gave to the guests.
