Numb Arm while Sleeping
Has anyone ever experienced this? For the past month or 2, my right arm goes numb while I'm sleeping, to the point where it wakes me up several times a night. When I wake up, it takes a good 10 minutes to shake it off and feel normal again. I know I should probably see my doctor, but with a baby at home it would be hard to go and take all the tests that I know he would want me to take. Any idea what this could be? I tried googling it, and scared the heck out of myself. Thanks!

Numb Arm while Sleeping
I get the same thing and for me, it's nerve compression because of back spasms. I get it almost every night depending on which position I sleep in. It usually stems from my upper back, shoulders, etc, but I get bad spasms in my lower back that affect the numbness as well. It goes away once I'm up. Sleeping with a pillow between my legs, to support the pelvis helps sometimes. If that's the case for you, it's not really a big deal--I just go to the chiropractor a couple of times a week for a month or so until it improves.
I've also found some decent youtube videos on upper back stretches and exercises that work well if you do them consistently--might be a good place to start, b/c you don't even have to leave home to do them.

Re: Numb Arm while Sleeping
After having my DD I had bad carpel tunnel, that my wrists and hands would go numb every night. My DD is 4 and it still happens sometimes. Could be from swelling compressing on nerves, if your DC is young and you recently gave birth.

This happens to me a lot. I just attributed it to carpal tunnel. I wish I knew for sure.

Numb Arm while Sleeping
i get it too. at least when it was bad, and all day, i was diagnosed with ulnar neuropathy. basically the nerve running through the elbow would get compressed, if the arm was bent even just a little bit.
i learned not to sleep with my arms bent up under my head when i sleep on my side. my arm is straight at my side, or straight out wrapped around a pillow to keep from bending the arm too far.
mine was diagnosed with an EMG to rule out never compressing in my neck.
do you sleep with your arm bent at the elbow at night?

Thanks so much for the replies and suggestions! It's comforting to know I'm not the only one who experiences this.

Re: Numb Arm while Sleeping
It could be that you're laying oin it or otherwise putting pressure on it. it could also be mnerve compression due to disc problems, muscle spasm, or carpal tunnel. I'd see a neurologist
