Just not satisfied with any breakfast except

bread/english muffin/ bagel etc. I DO NOT EAT EGGS, at all! I wish I did. It's awful. I'll wake up with the best intentions. Have a banana and a yogurt or some oatmeal but a little while later I am craving bread so badly I usually cave and have it.

If I stay pretty light on carbs for the rest of the day- is it that bad? I can do whole wheat but have been reading mixed things about whether or not it's really healthy.

Ultimately I want to lose about 40 lbs in my dreams. I don't want to be miserable doing it because I'm afraid I won't be able to maintain then. I will be working out! Help!

I think if you limit your carb intake on a daily basis, you will drop the weight.

I did this recently (fell off with the hurricane and holidays) but dropped about 10 lbs. pretty quickly.

This was mostly by cutting back on bagels at breakfast and carby/sugary snacks throughout the day.

I was just like that last year. You have to break the cravings. Try giving up for 2 weeks. Its hard, i understand. I eat eggs but another suggestion can be a protein shake for breakfast. A good one I drink after morning workouts:
coconut milk
scoop of chocolate whey protein
teaspoon cacao powder
heaping tablespoon almond butter
large banana
few ice cubes

put in a blender until smooth.

What about PLAIN greek yogurt? I buy the 2% plain and add a splenda, teaspoon of vanilla and cinnamon. Tastes great and actually holds me well. You could also add some berries or other low sugar fruit. Bananas are high in sugar and that's probably why you crave more carbs shortly after you eat them.

I agree you have to break the cravings by giving up the carbs for 2 weeks then slowly adding some back.

What about deli turkey/chicken rolled up w/ mayo for breakfast? Sometimes when I'm bored w/ eggs I eat that.

Thanks girls, I do like the idea of a smoothie and the rolled up turkey. Ugh, I'm sure you are right and just need to break the habit. SO hard!

If you really "need" the carbs go ahead and have them. Of the three foods you listed I would go with the english muffin. If you can do it I would try a whole wheat or multigrain option. Pair it with a protein like almond butter.
In general you should try to pair carbohydrates with protein at every meal. You may want to look into a diet plan that includes carbohydrate cycling.

Also, there is no rule that says you have to eat breakfast foods in the morning.

This smoothie is not low in carbohydrates or calories- The banana alone is at least 2 servings of carbohydrates and depending on the brand of the other ingredients you likely have nearly a third serving of carbohydrates. How much of each ingredient are you adding?

I was thinking that too. Absolutely a very healthy smoothie, but if the OP is trying to watch carb intake she would probably be better off with the english muffin.

If you wanted to lower the carb count in the smoothie, opt for unsweetened vanilla almond milk instead of coconut water and maybe have a few berries instead of the banana?

I'm not saying don't have the original version, just giving a lower carb option!

Also, I saw someone mentioned greek yogurt---I'd ditch the splenda if possible. One of my favorite yogurt ideas is to take 1 FF greek yogurt container put some cinnamon in it. Then I take a 1/4-1/2cup of blueberries (obviously you can lessen this to reduce carb/calories, but carbs are not the enemy!) and cook them in a tiny bit of water until they get very juicy and almost make a berry compote. Toss that into the yogurt and top with some crunchy cereal if you want! YUM!

sorry i was going for low carb, was giving an option for eliminating grains. this smoothies is high in fat also, but you won't be hungry for a while after... like you would after a bagel.

ETA: should say WASN'T going for low carb

Absolutely! Love that--I always find that I feel a bit better with my fats higher and carbs lower! Much more satisfied!

Re: Just not satisfied with any breakfast except

Try the weight watchers brand bagels/english muffins or the fiber one brand. No need to feel guilty about carbs if they are limited and especially in the morning when you have the whole day to burn them off.
