Chromosomal testing
I have recently been entertaining the possibility of doing chromosomal testing this pregnancy, since I have been become more anxious about such problems due to my age and additional losses this time around. I don't like to rule any option out completely, but due to my history of recurrent loss, doing an amnio has always been something I have pretty much immediately said "no thanks" to. I did a nuchal scan with my son (was 37 at the time) and my stats were good, so that was it for me. My doc understands my concerns and has mentioned that there is a blood test available that looks at the chromosomes, eliminating the need for an amnio and which can be done much sooner. She said it can be expensive if not covered by insurance, but she would look into it if I wanted to do it. Anyone know anything more about this test? Even though I have tended to not want this type of testing, I have been so worried lately that I am starting to wonder if testing further might alleviate my concerns a little. Might, being the operative word.
My concerns with doing any chromosomal testing is what I do with the information if there is an issue. Do I want to know that upfront? I honestly don't know if I could make the choice to end things if there was something serious wrong. With so much of this testing, we are so far along in our pregnancies when we find out. After seeing a heartbeat at 6 weeks (several times), I don't how I could make the decision to stop it. I pray to God I don't have to face that choice, and have no judgment on anyone faced with it who has. It is such a difficult issue to have to consider, on top of all the other things we have all had to endure to get and stay pregnant. I know this is a safe place to discuss these things, so I was hoping some of you ladies would share your thoughts.

Re: Chromosomal testing
It's called maternit21 My insurance doesn't cover it... I looked into it b/c given our # of losses/ history I refuse an amino and cvs ... But we opted to skip the test too. I called the manufacturer and was told if my insurance didn't cover it they charged I think it was around $400 or less and wouldn't go after the rest of the $$$. It seems like its got a high accuracy rate. Hope that helps. Best of luck!

Re: Chromosomal testing
I had this test done because I did not want something invasive. It was simple, and you get to know the sex early on as a bonus. The results don't mean terminate if something wrong, to me, it was be prepared if there is an issue.
However, many insurances do not cover it yet. Where I got it done, it was a flat $235 for the test regradless of what insurance pays. My insurance did pay for much of it, and I am responsible for no more than the 235 I paid up front.
