I put stuffed toys, tug toys and blankets in the washing machine. Rubber toys, nylabones and kongs get washed with dawn dish soap or go in the dishwasher.

Re: washing dog toys?

this is some of what i found re: kong & dishwaher
-------------------------------------------------
I get Kong's newsletter. You can put the Kong in the dishwasher, but they recommend that you don't use the dry cycle.

---------------------------------------------------

There is really no problem with the kong in the dishwasher it's the detergent you use and the jet dry. The phosphates and other chemicals are absorbed into the rubber of the Kong especially with the high heat during the wash cycle. We through all the toys in on a rinse cycle and no dish soap or jet dry type chemical. Safer for your pets.
--------------------------------------------------------
THIS IS FROM KONG"S WEBSITE!
We suggest hand washing your KONG in warm soapy water. We have found that the high heat in newer dishwashers can, in some cases, wear down your rubber toys faster.
Soak your KONG in warm water with a little dish soap to help loosen those stickier bits.
For tougher treats and sticky peanut butter: bottle brushes (often used to clean baby bottles) and a dab of dish soap can help get those tricky areas near the top. Make sure to rinse thoroughly with warm water.
A powerful jet stream from a hose can often work to wash leftover snacks out.
Caretakers should regularly examine toys and look for cracks, separations and/or missing pieces. Inspect KONG rubber toys by flexing the rubber when it is dry. Loose pieces larger than a food nugget can be harmful if swallowed so make sure to remove or replace damaged or worn toys.

Good to know about the nylabones. I will go back to soaking them in soapy water then hand washing. As for the kongs I am going to continue using the dish washer for now since in three years I have not noticed any break down of the rubber BUT I do have an older dish washer.
