Male Semen Analysis?
Hi Ladies,
So I went to a new acupuncturist today and he asked me if my husband got the semen analysis done, which he didn't. I guess my RE figured that since I had a lag in my lining (LPD) the problem was with my body; but the acupuncturist (Andy) said that I should have my husband's semen analyzed as well. My RE never brought this up. Could problems with sperm also cause m/c's? Ahhh I don't know what to do, if I should get in touch with LI IVF now about this....

I would say you should have it done. We did all the tests we could do, just so that we could cross it off our list and know it wasn't a factor. I also have a LPD, but we still did the analysis. I'm sure you can call and they'll set it up for you (it was done by a company from California that ships the container to your house).

im shocked this wasnt the first course of action with an RE!! absolutely get an SA done stat before you start any protocol. sperm play a big part in pregnancy - they are half the kids DNA!! of course they can cause mc...i would think twice about seeing an RE that didn't start by requesting a SA from your DH.

My RE got back to me and said the sperm doesn't cause miscarriage but gives them a picture of overall fertility. This man is an expert in the field...

I don't want to overstep a specialist but I'm almost sure (and anyone who disagrees or knows better - please correct me if I'm wrong) that sperm may not directly cause a MC but I think I remember reading somewhere or being told that if the sperm is shaped oddly (a morphology issue) then that can interfere with a successful pregnancy. DH had 2 sperm analysis done and the first was done by one set of standards and came out great. However, when my RE did it with a different standard, he found a slight morphology issue. We still aren't sure if that was what our problem was but we did have a successful IUI after.
